AFP is a Serial Child Killer: Outrage Over the Killing of Two Minors in Toboso!
The NDFP Special Office for the Protection of Children decries the killing of two minors in Toboso, Negros Occidental. We hold the Marcos Jr. regime and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) accountable for these war crimes and grave violations of children’s rights in armed conflict.
The killing of 15-year-old Jemina Gumadlas and 17-year-old Dexter Patajo, both residents of Negros, is a heinous crime and a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), particularly the principle of distinction between combatants and civilians. Children, even in the context of armed conflict, must be afforded the highest level of protection at all times. The AFP’s indiscriminate firing in Toboso, which resulted in the killings of at least nine civilians, demonstrate a reckless disregard for these fundamental obligations to which the Philippine reactionary regime is party to and therefore must be held accountable to such obligations.
What further outrages the conscience is the fact that elements of the AFP even went to celebrate the outcome of their operations in an award-giving ceremony on April 24 following what they described as a “successful neutralization of armed insurgents” in Negros Occidental. This is despite full knowledge that two children were among those they massacred. Such conduct reflects not only a profound disregard for human life, but a deeply entrenched culture of impunity within the ranks of the AFP. The loss of children’s lives should never be celebrated.
Beyond the killings, the military operations of the 79th Infantry Battalion in Toboso have resulted in the mass displacement of civilians. Reports indicate that over 600 families were forcibly displaced in Toboso, effectively uprooting families including many children from their homes and exposing them to further harm and trauma. This mass displacement constitutes yet another grave violation of children’s rights and humanitarian protections afforded to civilians.
The AFP already has a long record of grave violations against children, including killings, forced displacement, psychological trauma, and the militarization of their communities. This has only intensified under the current Marcos Jr. regime.
In Negros Occidental, Ben and Ravin Fausto, 14 and 11 years old were shot dead on June 14, 2023, together with their parents Roy and Emelda Fausto, both farmers. The parents of the boys were tagged by the AFP and the NTF-Elcac as members of the New People’s Army. The perpetrators were unnamed armed state agents in Himamaylan City.
Another incident occurred in Sitio Natuling, Barangay Budlasan, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental last July 26, 2022. In the morning of said date, the 59th Infantry Battalion straffed the home of Christina Jacolbe, a pregnant mother killing her, her 16 year old daughteer, Everly Kee Jacolbe and Roldan Montero.
These are just some examples of the killing of minors in Negros Island. Since Marcos Jr. assumed office in 2022, at least 11 minors have been killed in military operations of the AFP.
We call on genuinely independent human rights bodies, both domestic and international, to conduct an immediate and impartial investigation into the Toboso massacre. The AFP commanders, the 79th IB, the specific unit involved in the operation and Marcos Jr. himself as commander-in-chief must all be held accountable, and justice must be rendered to the victims and their families.

Robert Reid | Global Chair FFPS In a statement by the National Democratic Front of the Philippines-Cagayan Valley (NDFP-CV), spokesperson Salvador del Pueblo alerted the public that Scarlet Lyne Gayo is a missing staff of their regional public information team who was cornered by elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). There are indications that she is being held by the military and pressured to turn against her revolutionary comrades in exchange for the dismissal of several trumped-up charges against her. This clearly goes against her rights to her own political beliefs and to not be subjected to arrest without a warrant from a case filed against her. If there is a case, she should be surfaced in court and her rights as arrested person need to be respected, such as the Miranda rights, right to attorney of her own choice, etc. This type of fascist violence has been a popular weapon of the US-Marcos regime, as well as previous administrations, and its armed forces in their psywar and all-out counterinsurgency war of suppression against the Filipino people. The NDFP and the people’s movement in Cagayan Valley and surrounding areas in Northern Luzon, as well as all parts of the country, have long been subjected to fascist terror by the AFP and other armed state forces. Such as the abduction, torture and killing of Ariel Arbitrario in Cagayan Valley on September 11, 2024, as well as the killing of Randy Malayao inside a bus in Nueva Vizcaya in 2019. Both had been NDFP consultants in peace negotiations, carried their document of information under the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) and as such should have been protected from attacks. NDFP peace consultants and staff perform important roles in the road to a just and lasting peace. Many of them are leaders and members of mass organizations and unions who are deeply engaged in the struggle for the rights and interests of the masses, and for the people’s desire for national and social liberation. Through this integration they are in the best position to help inform and put forward the people’s demands for a just and lasting peace. NDFP staff and consultants are spread all throughout the many islands of the Philippines and their role in updating the negotiating panel on the situation of the people, on their needs and demands, is an essential contribution to the peace process. They are the pulse that keep the Negotiating Panel informed of the situation on the ground. Furthermore, they help ensure that the NDFP’s vision advances the people’s agenda for genuine change, and as such contribute to the just and internationally recognized struggle for self-determination. Under the JASIG, NDFP staff’s safety is to be protected to ensure their full participation in peace negotiations. The abductions, imprisonments, torture and killings of NDFP peace consultants and staff involved in the peace process, are not only a violation of the signed JASIG and a violation of their fundamental rights but also undermine the peace process between the GRP and the NDFP. It means that the Negotiating Panel has less people in the field supporting the panel and representing the demands of the Filipino people. The abduction and continued disappearance of NDFP-CV staff member Scarlet Lyne Gayo amongst the continuing US-Marcos’ war of suppression represents the insincerity of the GRP in pursuing just and lasting peace. From previous cases in recent years involving the abduction and disappearance of legal activists and NDFP personnel, it is well documented that victims are regularly subjected to severe physical and psychological torture aimed at coercing them to renounce their comrades and organizations. This heightens our concern for the grave danger now faced by Scarlet Lyne Gayo, who has been missing since December 9, 2025, and underscores the urgency of the situation.We therefore urgently call on the entire international community to stand with the struggling Filipino masses, call for the immediate surfacing of Scarlet Lyne Gayo and the full respect of her rights as an individual, as well as the respect of international law and existing signed agreements. - Got a bit slow in the middle but picked up later on.
- The version on Fawesome is unbelievably overcropped, meaning close shots show you practically nothing. I think it was cropped from cinema widescreen to 4:3 for TV/VHS, then cropped again to make a “widescreen” version again. Compare to the trailer for the restored version
- Music & dubbing often fun. The accents of the monks! OMG
- If you like seeing nuns get shot, this is your jam! Strawberry jam! (Inside joke for those who’ve seen the film.)(Admittedly, 95% of the shot “nuns” are actually gangsters in disguise.)
