Petite journée de travail au Perlan Center. Et l'occasion de profiter du panorama dans le restaurant sous la coupole (la dernière fois que j'y étais, on a eu une visibilité nulle à cause d'un giga blizzard en janvier 2023). Quand tu commandes un Fish&chips à 4500 isk, tu sais que tu payes davantage pour le spot que pour la qualité de la bouffe (pas dégueulasse mais pas de quoi faire briller son cul sur une commode).
Demain, on nous annonce un très beau temps donc grosse rando sur l'Akrafjall !

Actuellement au Perlan museum pour une petite mission et... Bah très bien ! Dehors c'est l'apocalypse : gros blizzard avec zéro visibilité !

#Perlan is in the air for another altitude record attempt!
They expect to encounter 160 kt winds at altitude. When they are flying at 40-54 kt indicated airspeed at altitude, their true airspeed will be about 350-400kts, and they will have to "crab" strongly into the 160 kt winds to stay in the wave lift they are predicted to find. 🤞

#Perlan is in the air! The virtual cockpit is streaming video from a camera mounted in the tail, and right now you can see the tow plane, the Grob G 520 Egret, ahead of the Perlan glider.

The #Perlan project is set for a world altitude record attempt in #unpowered #sailplane flight today.
Launching in the next hour or two, towing up to around 50K feet (higher than typical airliners fly), then hopefully #soaring in mountain wave to a new world record, at altitudes similar to the service ceiling of the (powered...) U2 spy plane.

The Perlan Project is back in Argentina this (southern hemisphere) winter, preparing to launch as soon as weather is good for soaring to the edge of space. Possibly as soon as tomorrow! And you can sign up to be notified when they start flying.
They have updated their telemetry this year, so their virtual cockpit will be within seconds of up to date, if you'd like to watch as they attempt another world record. This time with fewer flight-testing restrictions than in past years. 🎉

Bin mal gespannt, was der heutige Tag bringt. In der Vergangenheit wurde ich an einem 31. Juli schon als Dosenfreak interviewt #KatjaWalder #FranziskavonGruenigen, war am grössten Openair Íslands #þjóðhátið #dalurinn, wurde nach einem Unwetter von #SBB und #DeutscheBahn nachts in Mittelaltergewandung in Basel im Stich gelassen und genoss ein romantisches Dinner mit meiner heutigen Frau im #Perlan in #Reykjavik

Day 11 of #iceland was supposed to be a helicopter tour to a glacier, but got cancelled due to mechanical problems. Instead, we visited #perlan which is a fun museum/science center with nice views of #reykjavik .
Spent the rest of the day wandering around town and having drinks. We had Tapas for dinner (not that great, but the cocktails were good), then saw a #heavymetal band at Lemmy, and ended the evening with a band (the "Honky Tonks") at a bookstore.
Good times, and a really late night.
