Friday Night Lashunta Inspiration

So I used this pic as the illustration for Chapter 41 last weekend. Yet I find it fascinates me. My only complaint: the trees are too small!

What is it about reproductions of ancient scenes that we find both more primitive and more spiritual? After we take out the Christin obsession with blind faith, what do we have left?

Lashunta believe in a direct, communal relationship with their world, be it with the local milktree or the World-Soul itself. It's not faith, but it is belief, which centers on believing that their lives are inextricably tied to the world.

What rite are they performing here?

I have wondered what a Soul-Tree might look like.

~Eazue~ a Milk-Tree so old, and who have imprinted so many psychic memory-records from so many Lashunta lives, that these combined resonances evolve into a gestalt consciousness, capable of interacting with the short-lived beings who tend it.

They do not grow within temples. Temples are built around them.

Cityborn Lashunta hold them as harbingers of the gods, Green-Mother's direct representative upon the world. The wilder Lashunta of the Retaea Moors and other less civilzed places may even equate them with the gods themselves.

Lashunta Inspirational Memory
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 – 1669. Yeah, that Rembrandt!)

Another Pallas Athena depiction, who is one of the few noble warrior-woman archetypes existing from Western Antiquity among a bunch of patriarchs. Come to think of it, for much of that time, specifically when Dark Age and Medieval Christianity dominated, even she was out of favor. It took a newfound fascination with Pagan Antiquity (the Renaissance) to bring her out of the catacombs.

Much has been made about Athena's rivalry with Ares, the titulary god of war, defining her as more of a protector than a reaver (though that may sometimes be a slight distinction in Greek Myth). This has led to some speculative juxtapostions relative to male vs female virtues in war.

For me, it is much simpler. Athena as the Warrior-Maiden is the perfect archetype for the Lashunta Damaya Outider.
