  1. @BruceMirken #CIDRAP is a great resource, though I mostly only listen to their every two week podcast with Dr. #osterholm

  2. Dr. #Osterholm presents an intelligent & passionate defense of #WHO & #USAID, & explains the vital importance of the scientific missions of the #CDC, #NIH, #NSF, & other research centers. #PEPFAR (the global HIV mission) is in 55 countries and treats 20.6 million people who are infected with #HIV-#AIDS.

“The demise of the WHO is something I could not have imagined in my lifetime.”

“Somebody has got to stand up and say ‘This is wrong.’”

  3. We ‘have our head in the sand’: Health experts warn #US isn’t reacting fast enough to #threat of #birdflu, edition.cnn.com/2024/12/27/hea

(...) That the #H5N1 virus has already spread so rapidly among #cattle, though, suggests “#USDA has basically dropped the ball, big-time,” said Dr. Michael #Osterholm, director of the #CIDRAP at the University of #Minnesota, in an interview with CNN Friday. “I think it was out of fear to protect industry. And they thought it was going to burn out, and it didn’t.”

  4. 2/ It was hard for me to believe, but after hearing @jzed74 mention it, I gave his #Osterholm Update podcast a listen and sure enough, he is blaming the pneumonia etc. in China on the fact that people were sheltered from viruses for so long. Not the same as in the U.S., he said, where we never had a real lockdown. It was kind of an “I told you so” statement, where he reference his letter from a year or so ago with Zeke Immanuel (sp?) about the need for China to quit trying to avoid #SARS2.
