  1. ⚠️ PSA: Bad news, everyone! ⚠️

It turns out #Django is not a #WebFramework and is only useful for #CRUD. 🤯

Wish y'all had told me that before I built a multi-level multitenant #WebApp for managing a utilities district's operations, scheduling, graph-based infrastructure models, GIS, communications, etc on... Django.

I guess it's time to shut down my business and scrap my upcoming #PyCon US talk 🤷‍♂️😆

  6. So, Orange Site's parent & CEO announces its 20th anniversary.

    On an overtly fascist platform.

I think the Nazi Bar really has arrived.

  7. “I’m an American living in France for the past two years and cannot wait to move back to the USA. The taxes are so extreme and salaries so low that no one can even invest in the stock market.”

    #orangesite is still funny. 😆

  8. Is it just me, or is there an entire army on the dedicated to defending absolutely reprehensible behavior from companies? I don't understand the motivation for seemingly ordinary people to defend activities that egregiously invade into and erode their personal . Or is there some other motivation that we're not aware of?

  9. big brains on the orange site are now experts on sunscreen and advising to minimise use 🤨 🦞

  10. A while ago on the #OrangeSite I read a comment by someone claiming that #GDPR #fines for using #GoogleFonts were unconscionable because browsers are #UserAgents and companies shouldn't be fined for what they do.

This is of course incredulous victim blaming, but it does bump up against an uncomfortable fact: the term "user agent" as applied to browsers is at best useful fiction.

A real user agent would not have a mechanism to load arbitrary untrusted code into itself or contact third parties.

  11. The rule says, “No vehicles in the park”

This proved to be way more interesting than expected…

Reading the comments on the #orangesite (which I normally would not) *afterwards* made it even more interesting:

  13. CW: venting, tech news

I'm increasingly frustrated by how terrible the options for #tech (and #technology discussion are.

The #birdsite set itself on fire. The #orangesite is a cesspool, in the name of "both sides are the same" moderation that bans politics, except when it's a soapbox for hate. #reddit has /r/technology, which is driven by petty gossip and gadgets. Lobste.rs has good discussion and focus, but their invite policy makes me deeply uncomfortable (even though I know I could get one).

  14. #HN has been down most of today. It's probably just a coincidence that this was my most productive day in weeks...

  15. OrangeSite is down

HN is down again with what appears to be a second disk failure. This is on the fallback server, which we switched to last night when the primary server failed. Will update when we know more. Sorry all!
