Polite critique for discussion, on the proposed more sophisticated definition of Diamond OA:
You do realize that Elsevier is genuinely an organization that both funds and performs research, right?
Eg Dr Bahar Mehmani’s research on peer review https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0257919

#OPERAS2024 in the last session of the conference, Elea Giménez Toledo (BNE) presents the platform "Terminología + IA en español" https://pti-esciencia.csic.es/project/teresia-portal-de-acceso-a-terminologias-en-espana-y-servicios-de-inteligencia-artificial/ - a service for automatic terminology extraction in scientific publications with #multilingual aspects and including Latin America #terminology #openscience #romanistik #spanish

Confirmed later via a question, the University of Lorraine was helped in their decision-making to unsubscribe from some large commercial publisher ‘big deals’ by https://unsub.org
-
Lorraine has an open publications (books & journals) infrastructure support fund. Superb. Magnifique ! #Operas2024
-
...and he’s here in the fediverse: Nicholas Fressengeas @fresseng
Kudos to Lorraine - such a great example to other universities 💯 #OPERAS2024
-
University of Lorraine has a Vice President of Open Science 👀 #OPERAS2024

Bravo: University of Lorraine (France), cutting ‘big deals’ with large commercial publishers & reinvesting the money saved in various open science / open access initiatives #OPERAS2024

@rmounce and here are some of the initiatives linked together in the keynote at #OPERAS2024
https://openalex.org/
https://muse.jhu.edu/

@rmounce thank you for mentioning our #Diamond #openaccess repository at @MaxWeberStiftung while citing Peter Baldwin: "Why are universities open access laggards?" https://perspectivia.net/receive/pnet_mods_00002460 #OPERAS2024
-
#OPERAS2024 the second keynote by @rmounce presents the #openaccess funding of Arcadia: https://www.arcadiafund.org.uk/promoting-open-access and it is intriguing how he links so many good initiatives in #openscience together and he reaches out to publishers: to sell print copies is a good thing and get a fair pay for their work - we are on the same page... And the interdisciplinary approach makes us stronger
-
We're listening to @rmounce speaking about Arcadia's support for all things open, from ourselves to @investinopen and beyond! #operas2024

Last day of #operas2024 and I'm determined to make the most of it!

#OPERAS2024
The beauty, challenge and strength of the OPERAS ecosystem is that so many facets of scholarly communication become discussed. Including its life cycles, its services „how to infrastructure“, its myths „nasty reviewer no. 2“, along with fascinating tools, engaged initiatives and practical steps to be taken.
I will need a lot of time to catch up and incorporate all inspiration and goals. -
“Most academic libraries need to recognize that they are blocking the path to equitable open access with their spending choices” (paraphrasing Demmy Verbeke) #OPERAS2024
-
I am loving hearing the dulcet tones of Demmy Verbeke's magical words! Wonderfully eloquent and frank discussion of the role of libraries in the scholarly communications crisis, particularly with regards to open access. #operas2024
-
-
An excellent provocation from Demmy Verbeke #operas2024
-
@MaxWeberStiftung and this does not mean to shut out private commercial publishers altogether, but to find a way for open scholarly publishing in a not-for-profit model. #OPERAS2024 #openscience
-
#OPERAS2024 very interesting overview of European scholarly publishing practice : in Germany and the Netherlands the market is dominated by the private sector, whereas university publishing is not relevant. Going into the direction of #Diamond #openaccess there is a lot of work to do. @MaxWeberStiftung offers an alternative in https://perspectivia.net/content/index.xml for its institutes. Still we need to create acceptance in the scientific community.
-
That's an unexpected find ... attending the #OPERAS2024 conference, @rupertgatti @kjsanders and @flavoursofopen happened upon one of the first specimens of a proper MARC record in the wild, dating back to ancient times ... 😀
-
An excellent start to #operas2024 was had today! Really great to catch up with excellent people within and beyond the @copim community, including @rmounce! (Frustrating that I have lost my phone, so can only use my laptop, but we have to play the hand we are dealt, not the hand we want!) Looking forward to carrying on tomorrow.

#OPERAS2024 our workshop today on "Data integration into GoTriple" was a joint activity of @operaseu and @Textplus / @MaxWeberStiftung now you can find about 1,7 million records of the @DNB_Aktuelles related to #SSH community in GoTriple: https://gotriple.eu/ - the selection of the data is based on the DDC (Dewly Decimal Classification) and the Net7 Team from GoTriple developed a Marc-21 connector - so if you are a data provider for #SSH bibliographic data in this format get in contact.
-
#OPERAS2024 starting with a workshop about #openaccess #books: radical ideas like get academic publishing out of the economic market, or take away the choice: make open access a rule... While at the same time work on the cultural change.
-
RT @OPERASEU: Our first day started with the third Consortium Meeting of the #OPERASPLUS project. Today, we reflect on the path so far and the next steps to the development of the OPERAS ERIC.
-
👏 So glad to see this spelled out for journals, thanks to Dominique Babini, Arianna Becerril-García & colleagues!
With @copim, @openbookcollect @oapenbooks we are also thinking about similar collaborative #openinfra networks for #OAbooks and hope to to discuss this and related questions more at today's #OPERAS2024 Workshop No. 7 - come join us, won't you? -
