Declarative programming for Digital Preservationists @ NTTW8
by @beet_keeperhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkjQgU0Aq5Q
Just released on the No Time to Wait (NTTW) YouTube channel is my presentation from NTTW8 in Karlsruhe, Germany. (Slides also available here).
The presentation follows up on my proposal for iPRES 2024 and allowed me to present parts of what was, in the end, a pretty significant paper (in terms of word count).

@BertrandCaron Looking forward!Ttime to pull the #nttw hashtag out of the drawer.

#ProRes follow-up for #iPRES2024.
Thanks @reto for the link to your #NTTW presentation. The #nttweffect is strong!

@BertrandCaron @r2gf I am also feeling the #FOMO for #NTTW8. It's especially sad because the workshop I'm co-hosting this year was inspired by #NTTW last year (AKA #nttwEffect). I'm planning to catch Friday sessions, but meetings are already sneaking up on me.
-
@r2gf
Same! I'm gonna miss entirely #NTTW because of #iPRES2024 preparation...
😭 -
@JennyMitcham Yes, I definitely agree it's the best version. It's time for me to reread the book, though. I doubt Brighton will live up to Lydia's hype, but we'll see. I'm not going to lie, it's hard for any conference to top the #NTTW energy

My #dp3 today was more of a #nntw7 three: 1) Trying to get a working group going to tackle #Wang disks (and word processing files), inspired by Leontien Talboom’s talk at nttw. 2) wrote local colleagues who were at #nttw to keep the exchange going, 3) asked our intern to present on her takeaways from #nttw at our next staff meeting

@mickylindlar @archivist_Liz
We started #NTTW with PREFORMA funding so focused on A/V by design, but after the end of the project archives started to sponsor themselves without any constraint so they do what they want there, #NTTW is "just" a place for you to meet ;-), so if you need to talk about more than A/V, it is welcomed. Organized by @MediaArea but driven by participants. -
@mickylindlar I always encourage people who are even a little bit interested to attend #NTTW. I'm not an AV archivist or conservator, & there is a lot I don't understand. But I've still gained a lot from attending, even if it's just to learn what others are up to, to know who I can reach out to when I have AV (file) issues & to become more aware of my knowledge gaps. So I would encourage people to attend & also bring their own (preservation) issues. It's a pretty open and welcoming space #NTTW7

@mickylindlar I think #NTTW has included video game preservation and time-based art preservation at least since #NTTW4 in Budapest, so I would say #NTTW7 is continuing on that trajectory. But my impression is that the curriculum of students is changing and becoming more interdisciplinary, so I feel like I've spoken to several young professionals or grad students here who are really at the intersection of conservation, and AV, digital, and software preservation. It's exciting

@archivist_Liz
cool! I'm missing out on #NTTW7 again this year due to too much other stuff. What i heard/read though is that #NTTW has significantly expanded its horizont from just AV preservation to more complex object preservation topics. do you think that's acurate to say? -
#ipres2023 Ricky Punzalan asking about what slowing down could mean in our work? How do we balance this with our feeling that there is no time to wait (to preserve obsolete media for example). #nttw #nttw7
-
@archivist_Liz when is it? haven't been to #nttw in a long time and prague & nttw is a trip that should be totally feasible on my own budget 🙂
-
@mickylindlar @JeromeM @ashley @digitensions I’m not sure who first used the expression, but there was a panel on the #nttw effect at #NTTW4. Finally did my homework 😅
-
@archivist_Liz didn't know there was such a thing as the #nttw effect! awesome. @ashley or @JeromeM - you know anything about this?
-
was the no time to wait effect ever defined? I guess I’ve always thought of it as good projects that came out of seeds or meeting people at #nttw. I’m thinking of putting it in an article. Halp?!?
