Optimized media helps, a lot, but uses a ridiculous amout of disk for any kind of decent quality. Using #prores 422 help even more. Apple stworzyło specjalną kamerę z komponentów iPhone’a do filmu „F1: The Movie”

Apple opracowało własny system kamerowy oparty na podzespołach iPhone’a, aby sfilmować autentyczne ujęcia z wnętrza bolidów Formuły 1 do swojego nadchodzącego filmu „F1: The Movie” – informuje WIRED.

Tradycyjne kamery filmowe są zbyt duże i ciężkie, by można je było zamontować w bolidach F1, bez naruszania zasad aerodynamiki, bezpieczeństwa i przepisów FIA. Standardowe kamery wyścigowe F1 sprawdzają się w transmisjach telewizyjnych, ale nie oferują jakości wystarczającej do kinowej produkcji.

Co zrobiło Apple?

Apple zbudowało dedykowany moduł kamery z:

• 48-megapikselowym sensorem z iPhone’a 15 Pro,
• układem A17 Pro do przetwarzania obrazu,
• specjalnym oprogramowaniem i systemem iOS dostosowanym do tego zastosowania.
• Kamera rejestruje obraz w formacie ProRes Log, dając twórcom pełną kontrolę nad zakresem dynamicznym i kolorystyką.
• Moduł ma neutralny filtr ND i mieści się dokładnie w miejscu standardowej kamery F1, zachowując jej wagę i wymiary – zgodnie z przepisami FIA.

Z uwagi na zakaz transmisji bezprzewodowej w F1, Apple opracowało specjalną aplikację na iPada, która służy jako przewodowy kontroler kamery przez USB-C. Filmmakerzy mogli ustawiać ISO, balans bieli, kąt migawki czy klatkaż, a materiał zapisywany był lokalnie i pobierany po wyścigu.

Film „F1: The Movie” z Bradem Pittem zadebiutuje międzynarodowo 25 czerwca, a w USA i IMAX – 27 czerwca. Pokazy przedpremierowe, na które się wybieram, będą w najbliższy poniedziałek 23 czerwca w kinach IMAX w Polsce.

Apple nie tylko stworzyło kamerę spełniającą rygorystyczne wymagania Formuły 1, ale też wykorzystało ten projekt do wprowadzenia nowości w iPhonie 15 Pro, takich jak tryb Log i wsparcie dla standardu ACES.

Krótko mówiąc: Apple zbudowało profesjonalne kino narzędzie… na bazie iPhone’a.

Brzmi kosmicznie, choć przecież już od dłuższego czasu iPhone’y wykorzystywane są na przykład na planach teledysków, o czym możesz posłuchać w jednej z moich rozmów.

Today I learned about #OpenAPV video codec. A BSD licensed alternative to #prores that will be default on #Android phones.

It can record 422-10 and 400-10 10bit color.

Hoping this is picked up by #ffmpeg and @kdenlive in the near future.

Prores has become more and more common in free software video tools. It's baked into #Blender 3D and #Kdenlive. At first I was thinking that we need a patent free alternative to #Prores, but it looks like the patent runs out in 2028.
