Whew, I've been busy, and the world has been.... wow. Just wow. #NotAFan
In the past year, we've purchased a house in the East Bay of California, moved our immediate family (myself, Sharon, and her other partner, Raven) plus our pets, moved Sharon's mom out here and in with us, worked with our realtor and contractor friends to get our duplex in Columbus prettied up and fully rented out, and get the mom-in-law's old house on the market and now in contract.
I want to get back to being more social here, as I love the community here, but there's still lots more more administrivia to do and we continue to settle in to our new home and habits here. So, even if you don't hear from me for a bit, know that I'm still (roughly) listening and I love seeing all of your updates. And know that we're eating plenty of tasty mangos when in season. Thanks, y'all!

Aggregated payments, bundles whether over time (subscriptions) or publications (e.g., cable television subscriptions) seem far more palatable. Mind that the latter have to be comprehensive. What's happening right now with streaming services is that we're getting both bundling (packages of programmes and series) and unbundling (multiple streaming providers) at the same time.

I’m not a fan of the new editing space layout for WordPress. “Open in new” for link is hidden under at least three extra clicks. Top toolbar controls for the block bleed into the page controls. Rather than helping, this friction slows me down for no good reason.

Continuing my read of the book mentioned in
https://todon.eu/@ljrk/110731363944727133 and there's a passage that struck me:> _putting the problems that need solving to get there at the centre of how we design our economic system. … It means asking what kind of markets we want, rather than what problem in the market needs to be fixed._
Now, this book is definitely mostly focused on capitalism and I'm #NotAFan. However it's clearly thinking of market-capitalism as a means to find a solution (in a way quite traditional capitalism). That made me wonder though: In how far could we "decouple" this market/competition from the core of capitalism, namely *owning capital*. E.g., how should we image an alternative form (syndicalism, communism, ...) which would still be able to fulfill this means? Notably all those alternative forms do not abolish companies and industry, they just put the power to the workers.
At this point it occured to me that a lot of the criticism of say the UdSSR's economy is pretty much concerning problems we have analogously in our current capitalist world (see the linked toot): Incompetent govts with the modern twist of an oligarchy of consulting. I'd argue, a lot of the problems were less about communism vs. capitalism, but symptoms of other misgovernment.
