I always heard something else in Nine Inch Nails' Wish (from Broken/Fixed). Maybe it's the tone of Trent's delivery, but the chorus always sounds to me like: "Wish there was something real in this world, F---- you."
I only found out recently that apparently it wasn't:

Accidentally duplicated a pile of documents at work last week. My whole desktop was like a Nine Inch Nails song - a copy of a copy of a copy.

Fixed has long been my go to album for the trip home from work, after a *certain* type of day.
I haven't needed to deploy it for those purposes for quite a while, but today I did.
Cathartic and danceable nihilism. It still helps.

The third Nine Inch Nails album for today's approaching cyclone: Further Down The Spiral, 1994's remix album of The Downward Spiral.
More of that NIN remix action, making strangely familiar songs... familiarly strange.
The version I have on CD is Halo 10 V2, the international edition with the excellent mix of Heresy and Hurt (Live).

Next Nine Inch Nails album for the cyclone watch: Hesitation Marks, from 2013.(Halo 28 to the totally committed.)
Dare I say it, Everything sounds as close as NIN will ever get to jumpy pop, and All Time Low as close as they will ever get to funk.

The cyclone is tracking further north now, but we'll still get a lot of wind and rain over the next 24 hours.
While we wait for it, I've been listening to some "recent" Nine Inch Nails.
First up: Add Violence, EP from 2017 - Halo 31 (you know who you are).
At the quieter end of the pained NIN spectrum, but with some nicely melodic electronica, piano and angst. Closes with the 7-minute-plus evolving droning outro of The Background World (I mean that as a compliment).

A few stressful jobs over the years have called for some industrial power on the way home. Wish by Nine Inch Nails, in fact the whole Fixed EP, never failed to reset and pick me up.
A neighbour did threaten to "punch my head in" another time, but I was playing it rather loud.
