I haven't played for a few years and I haven't DM'd for more than a decade but reading about the new tabletop RPG, Nimble, makes me want to do both.
I've changed a lot in the last 10 years and I'd be a better DM. More interested in the players as heroes and less in being clever and combative.
Nimble seems to support this. Any thoughts?

Brilliant idea, or terrible idea: play a game of Dwarf Fortress. Turn the map into a megadungeon for my Nimble game.
A thousand years later after it’s been transformed for another purpose.

I am enthused about the #NimbleRPG #ttrpg, for some fast play '5e but not', 'rules tight' heroic fantasy japes.

My group successfully committed some insurance fraud at the Snail Fancier Society
They followed instructions and didn’t end up in combat.
They are starting to have enough money that I need to find things they can spend it on.
Next time they go hunting in the sewers for the beast that’s been eating beggars.

Finally remembered to turn on hex numbers. Now my notes can actually specify where things are.
Aberash Keep is in 14.37.
Also learned how to make a GM layer.
Of course noticed a typo in Kondwani City.
Most of the Marsanne lands.

I’m making a little adventure site based on these maps: https://dysonlogos.blog/2023/11/16/miserth-keep-collected/
The surface and above will be mostly goblins, a few bugbears, and some wolves.
I like the idea that they don’t use the underground sections, but dump their garbage and occasional prisoners down the trapdoor to feed some giant spiders that live down there.

We went scouting and didn’t find the beast we were looking for, but stumbled into a strange beast we are calling a bearowl. It was a good fight, but our vengeance oathsworn is potent. Also playtested a homebrew class called the bravo.
The hexbinder helped by reducing its armor, the bravo by distracting it and giving it disadvantage on attacks against others.

We have second big fight in Nimble, against a group of ghouls.
It was the most dynamic we’ve had yet. Lots of back and forth.
My commander had to switch to bow which he sucks at, but I was still able to pick off wounded ones, and keep close to friends to interpose and defend.

Playing another session of our nimble game. Started becoming friends with the rat men. They want us to rescue some of their folk who have been taken as slaves by an Ork raid. We’ll see how dangerous it looks. One of their scouts is taking us.

Played the first session of #NimbleRPG last Monday and will be playing the second one tomorrow. I'm just running the adventures in the book - they are pretty "straight" but I always weird everything up without meaning to anyway.
Generally response has been good. One player even said he had a lot of hope for the system already. People _like_ the heroic fantasy #ttrpg thing, it's just nitpicking complexity and pointless choices they tend not to like, and Nimble is good at getting rid of those.

Reading the default setting in the #NimbleRPG #ttrpg book today and I was impressed that:
- it has one at all; many RPGs don't even come with an adventure, or maybe just a tiny one;
- it's designed to teach someone new to sandbox play how to do that. The setting is made up of hooks and there are several short adventures if players expressed an interest in an area - both usable and also examples. If you've only read 1-20 campaigns you would have no examples of writing for your own game. -
Surprisingly impressed by the #NimbleRPG in its second edition. I originally wrote off the first as just a #dnd5e hack, but this pulls together a lot of #PF2e as well as other games plus its own special sauce. It does seem like it would work as advertised ie quickly and slickly, and it's written with a lot of energy (reminded me of Black Hack 2e).
Tragically it may fall by the wayside what with Daggerheart and Draw Steel coming out but so far I prefer it to either.
