Well I am not convinced #nativists change their spots..... it was never the educated, globetrotting people who resented furriners coming here talking funny on the trains and cooking smelly food - it was the little people whose idea of travel is a package holiday to a beach

They are still there....any suggestion FOM might return will get them voting to prevent it

Very clever! Govt deliberately promoted that "at least 700k" notion ahead of publication so all the #nativists heave a sigh of relief... after being conned with #brexit they are being conned again

557k emigrated - so the actual number coming in was 1.2 million (!)

What proportion of 557k born & raised here is anyone's guess - most I'd guess but it will include a fair number of overseas students ending their UK residence

Shame though - to have lived & worked here for decades - even brought up kids - and not have the vote seems wrong

Well I'm not sure what divide you refer to - between labour & the lost electors in 2019, or between the leadership & those activists who preferred the previous leader?

The most important thing is for voting #labour to be seen as a normal sensible thing & attract more votes - I doubt #labour can get #nativists who turned #kipper back, but #toriesOut have left a lot of space in the centre by turning #hardRight

If #labour don't win #nextGE there'll be a new leader for sure

The marginalised are a small % of electorate - #labour must get support of more than any other party to gain power - or it is not a political party but a talking shop.

I don't know what's required for that - I only know they did not win any of the last 4 elections

I too am disturbed by trimming to placate #nativists & statements about thatcher excluding reference to the ills she spread - but if that is the price of victory...

I think #illegalMigrationBill is the perfect tag...... since this bill is indeed illegal under international treaty and is just there to boost #toriesOut support, not to actually do anything about the migrant "crisis" - after all if that were gone what would the #toriesOut have left to appeal to their post 2016 base of #farRight #nativists ?

high standards in public office?
