  1. Quick #munnel review:
I like the design and colour scheme in general but I think if Town Hall and State Library stations are going to have arches and chandeliers they should be less understated.
Big fan of ANZAC station's giant lampshade and criss cross pattern.
I salute the respect for the tradition of Parliament station at State Library by having escalators that give me a little bit of vertigo.
I'm guessing these are probably not controversial opinions but they are my very own first impressions

  2. First time in the #melbourne cbd in ages. I'm gonna #munnel for the first time wish me luck

  3. they should sell an appropriate baked good at the nnet metro tunnel - a doughnut - a munnel cake, if you will

  4. Parkville Station smells like damp socks that were left in the washing machine for a few days. I hope this doesn't happen every time it gets rained on.

  5. There is a packed train parked at Town Hall. It is not moving until further notice. It was advertised as going to Packenham but now they have announced it will go to West Footscray - we don't know when.

They have just announced that they are organising replacement buses from Hawksburn.

The platform at Town Hall has a lot of people waiting but there is still plenty of room because the platform is very wide.

However, there are nowhere near enough seats.

  9. CW: Melbourne Metro Tunnel thoughts

I won't directly benefit from the #MetroTunnel #Munnel because I'm primarily on the Glen Waverley Line. But I'm curious about how much more frequently trains can run on my line now. And, relatedly, how much more frequently trains _will_ run on my line now.

Edit: This blog melbourneontransit.blogspot.co reckons no change to the frequency of the Glen Waverley line at all, which seems about right.

  10. Resuming my thread about my first experience of the new Melbourne Metro Tunnel line which I experienced today, day 2 of the tunnel's operational life...

I thought that this sign in one of the new stations was showing people the boarding gate next to the sign because in Australia, we are not used to this system.

No, it is telling people to walk down the platform to a gate that will open. The platforms have been designed to cater for trains with more carriages than are running at the moment.

  11. Today is day 2 of live operations of the Metro Tunnel - also known as the Munnel. I decided that today would be day 1 of me trying it out.

It turns that it was a good idea having my first experience of it on day 2 as there were plenty of spare seats on the are trains.

  12. Opened the lappietappie to check if I was going to get soaked on the way to the shops, but got distracted by all the aus dot socialites losing their minds about the new #munnel. Dog, who was promised an adventure, looks disgruntled. It's for her own good tho, since she's a #whippet I know that she will instantly dissolve if touched by even a single drop of rain.
