Alright #MuC2023, let's make it a good last paper session on "Learning, Reading and Support" in half an hour! It includes an article by @hen_drik and @eglassman on "Accessible Text Tools for People with Cognitive Impairments and Non-Native Readers: Challenges and Opportunities" https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3603555.3603569 and four more presentations. 🙂 Closing keynote by Elisabeth André right afterwards. I'll probably be talking with too many people during breaks to post again, so see you on the other side! 👍

Nice quote by Verna Myers

The "Input" paper session at #MuC2023 is about to start. Looks like we'll see some rather technical presentations. I'm looking forward to Abdrabou et al's "How Unique do we Move? Understanding the Human Body and Context Factors for User Identification" which may be relevant to my own #HCI research on body/pose tracking and behavior pattern clustering.

Anyway, the #MuC2023 poster madness was fun! Afterwards (post-dinner) I had a nice chat with Lea Wöbbekind by her poster on “Comparing Peer Tutoring and Thinking-Aloud for Usability-Testing With Children in a School Setting”: https://doi.org/10.1145/3603555.3608542
Evaluating #HCI research methods with kids is really hard, and Lea et al. reached empirical results that completely contradict the existing literature. Very cool stuff.
I'll be at the “Input” paper session tomorrow! 🙂 https://www.conftool.com/muc2023/index.php?page=browseSessions&form_session=67&lang=1

An unplanned side effect of #MuC2023 happening in Switzerland:
Because EU mobile data roaming regulations don't apply, I'd get charged an obscene amount for each megabyte I use. Consequently I've disabled my mobile data and confined myself to wifi.
As a result, whenever I'm outside the conference's wifi range (and not in my hotel), I can't check social media. This afternoon while out at the lake, I was 100% unable to look at my Mastodon feed.
So instead I looked at some ducks. 🦆🦆🦆

Today at #MuC2023 Peter Sörries presented an interesting study design and method on “Endorsing #Values through Participation: Facilitating Workshops for Participatory Value Elicitation in Two Different Contexts to Inform Sociotechnical Designs”
Also very interesting use cases: medical data donation and mobility data donation

Following the fascinating #MuC2023 opening keynote by Anthony Steed, I had a great time exploring the footpaths by the OST campus, walking along the lake for some time with a colleague and just enjoying the fresh air. Very nice area, I can see why people set up the college here. 🙂
