Can flawed AI-generated images be better for design than accurate ones?
In a new #CSCW2025 paper, @jaguridi et al. explore using image-generative AI as a boundary object in participatory processes to design public spaces.
Their key finding: Imperfect, unexpected images, which they term conversational imperfects, prompted richer and more space-aware conversations with participants than accurate images (fake perfects") did.

@impactology I highly recommend you check out “The Corruption of Co-Design” by Busch & Palmås. It’s a lucid application of critical theory to #design. I haven’t finished it yet, but the last 3rd of the book is dedicated to developing an alternative approach/posture for design, particularly #codesign and #participatorydesign. So far it’s one of the most exciting design books I’ve read in years. Thanks to @daspitzberg for bringing it to my attention.

@ntnsndr @jtr there are some really great models and practices within the #ParticipatoryDesign mode that could be explored for this kind of work — especially “Consensus Design” that balances domain expertise with user/lived-experience expertise.
