Distribuzione via #amazon

  6. Army Moves was another title that was a lazy conversion from the #ZXSpectrum to the #MSX system. Sadly, Spectrum converted games run always slower on MSX computers due to the architecture differences and the patched (and often inefficient) routines to make the conversion.

Of course... unless you have a #MSXTurboR and enable the R800 CPU... See how the game improves its performance seriously when taking advantage of the Turbo mode on some MSX models.

  7. @syx oh, and the reason @bitsofbas suggested to get a Japanese model if you are in the USA is mostly because those models will have a voltage closer to your native one, as European models tend to be designed for 220V or 240V.
#MSX2Plus and #turboR bring a newer VDP, which may be nice, but the amount of games that support it, is limited.
#MSXTurboR adds support for the #R800 CPU in addition to the previous generations' #Z80, which certainly can give a nice speed boost, especially in day-to-day software like file managers when browsing solid state media with large directories, but it comes with a huge price markup, and only a limited catalogue of games.

For comparison, here's the amounts of software indexed in #GenerationMSX per generation of #MSX:

    • MSX (4193)
    • #MSX2 (2972)
    • MSX2+ (145)
    • Turbo-R (179)

You can use generation-msx.nl/software/res to list all MSX2+ and turboR software indexed in #GenMSX to get an idea of what kind of games support those generations, or use the checkboxes in the sidebar to filter in/out other generations or specs.

  12. Return of Jelda is an #arcade game that was ported to the #MSX2 system. It's a real 3D vector game that uses SCREEN 7 (a 512x212 res mode very rarely used in MSX #games).

This version has been accelerated taking advantage of the R800 #CPU running @28.64 MHz that are present in #MSXTurboR #computers.

  13. Do you know how FAST an #8bit #computer can be?

Multpilex is a game for #MSXTurboR computers, the only #MSX machine with two CPUs (the regular [email protected] and the boosted [email protected]).

It features lots of impressive techniques such as parallax scrolling, dual plane, hardware sprites and colour palette multiplexing.

  14. WEC Le Mans, known as WEC Le Mans 24 in #Japan, is a racing simulation #videogame released in arcades by #Konami in 1986. It was the first racing video game to depict the 24 Hours of Le Mans World Endurance Championship (WEC).

This version is a #MSX port from the #ZXSpectrum version 💩.
It has been fixed to take advantage of the R800 CPU built in the #MSXTurboR #computers.

  15. Strategic Mars is a often overlooked #MSX2 game that combines both arcade and strategic gameplays.

The game suffers from slowdowns in some stages, but this version has been sped up on #MSXTurboR #computers thanks to their R800 CPU.

  16. Can a #MSX computer do 3D?
Check ELITE. This version has been modified to take advantage of the powerful R800 CPU present on #MSXTurboR models.

It should work on any accelerated MSX machine that is compatible with BIOS function #0180 (CHGCPU).

The download link (ROM and DSK versions) is on the Youtube video's description.

It's refreshing to see one of these videos covering this #80s #8bit #homeComputer platform for which I have quite some #nostalgia, and not just focus on the crappy #ZXSpectrum ports and games without smooth scrolling, and instead highlights the high quality releases, excellent #homebrew, hardware extensions and even patches that add #smoothScrolling to existing #games.
