  1. One thing that’s important to realize about how #MSNBC operates (as well as #FoxNews and to a far lesser extent #CNN by the way), the news departments and the opinion/commentary departments. I’m watching a clip of #NewsNation criticize #MSNBC for shifting the blame of #Hamas’ terrorist attacks, but all the clips are from shows like #Velshi and #TheMehdiHasanShow. While these statements are awful and I hate these opinion shows, #MSNBC’s daytime programming of “Reports” shows (you may remember this trend beginning in #MSNBC’s all-caps “Lean Forward” rebranding during the 2016 election cycle which replaced its daytime slate of opinion programming with #MSNBCLive, an effectively #NBCNews-run program helmed by rotating anchors) is usually not nearly as bad.

  4. @sam #FoxNews is viewed a bit more favorably AFAIK, despite running a bit of opinion shows at night and letting it bleed into the daytime programming over the past few years, largely because they've done a great job of retaining their news division's talent and spotlight (i.e. utilizing #BrettBaier for straight news, replacing #EdHenry with #PeterDoocy and continuing to utilize him, and replacing #TheKellyFile's timeslots with straight news shows rather than opinion programming). #CNN used to do this years ago with #WolfBlitzer and #AndersonCooper pulling combined five hours at least each weekday IIRC, but while they're still around, much of their spotlight has been stolen by inferior talent such as #JimAcosta and #DonLemon. There are folks like #DanaBash are pretty underutilized, even #JakeTapper should have more airtime IMHO.

#MSNBC would be a good model for #CNN to emulate, they have done a great job of giving the actual news people a space to breathe between #MSNBCLive (which unfortunately much of the opinion folks have co-opted/infiltrated but is nonetheless still a good news show AFAIK) and #NBCNewsNow, which is criminally underrated. Unfortunately, #CNN neither has the clear branding separation of its news and opinion folks that #MSNBC has, nor the track record of consistently airing straight news alongside opinion programming like #FoxNews has, so they'd have a hard time convincing viewers that their pivot to hard news is legit even if it happens.

  6. @freemo Well I appreciate how they've been strengthening the integrity of their daytime news programming with #MSNBCLive and #AriAndVelshi, at least. Those are legitimately good shows, and I say this as a #GOP #FoxNews fan.
