@feditips It's as much a "central authority" as any directory is.
Where you're seeing an attempt to wrest control, I see acknowledgement of the fact that Mastodon's required method for validating metadata, a matching `rel="me"` link back to the mastodon profile, isn't possible on Twitter. So this tool believes it is "*the*" way to work around that as directly as possible.
Heck the fedified people I've followed already use other validated links in their metadata. This is a #molehill.
