#Klobuchar is trying to make the right sounds now that she's past the primary.
Try harder.
Michelle Griffith at the Reformer asked about the feds spying on progressive groups and unions in Minnesota.
“This was very concerning. I mean, they can’t use their power to just surveil people they don’t agree with. That’s wrong. So, of course I am going to be asking for details on what they did. I don’t care if you are a Democrat or Republican, if you agreed with ICE or you didn’t agree with ICE, you can’t have people surveilled,” Klobuchar said. “This is reminiscent of things in the past, and it’s scary.”
Wow, that almost sounds like she kinda might be ready to think about taking a stand maybe sometime.
If her handlers are OK with it that is.

Amanda Marcotte on Minnesota, Wisconsin election results: "Most people on the left really aren’t humorless joykills, I swear. But the right likes to elevate those that are, because they understand what a turn-off that is for most people. It distracts from policy debates, where the left has real persuasive power. People understandably don’t like being scolded. That’s also a bad look for a politician who needs to build coalitions in order to get things done. People who can charm others rather than browbeat them are a lot better at persuasion."

I am glad that Ms. Flanagan won the DFL primary for U.S. Senate, and I'm not unduly worried about her matchup with Ms. Tafoya.
My 2 cents: Rep. Craig attempted to make the case that she was more electable, but that was never going to sway voters in this cycle. If anything, people who are paying attention to such things probably think it is a wave election (much like the one that brought her to office after an unsuccessful attempt the previous cycles).
The other factor is that Rep. Craig overestimated her own popularity but I think this is her district becoming more blue. She was only +2 in the last election vs. Harris, which is not a huge bipartisan base of support. (She did carry her own district in the primary election, but just barely.)
On the other hand, I think she was probably getting bad polling numbers -- the last three surveys I found had Craig leading 42-40, 40-40, 41-36 but that turned out to be her ceiling. So her decisions look reasonable if that was what the internal data was showing, but if so it was deeply flawed. The final count was not close, it was a lopsided 59-39 victory.

Ugh. The local paper is rife with stories about "what could happen" tomorrow -- primary election day.
We'll just have to wait and see, won't we?
(We're eyeing that Pillow Guy contest with relish, though, to mix a metaphor.)
I used to enjoy observing this stuff, owing to my former profession, but I'm rather tired of it now. Especially the dreadful political ads on television and eww-tube.
Honestly if people make up their minds based on the millions spent on dire-sounding paid announcements on television, why, I'm nonplussed.
The bad mood's only natural as one approaches the limit. I blame the electorate.
That said, see ya at the polls!

Fortunately, her opponent in the DFL primary, Peggy Flanagan, is pretty cool. If like me you long for the US to have an actual opposition party that isn’t in the technofascist bag, well…this primary is specifically about whether we Minnesotans want that.
Voting is not the only or even the primary way we get ourselves out of this mess, but here is one place where voting can actually make a difference in the course of events. August 11, folks — and you can vote in the primary early!
Seize that moment, then get back to doing all the other work of resistance.

A Craig-affiliated PAC ran a deepfake video attack ad against her DFL primary opponent, and Craig’s response was basically “but the ad is true, though!” (It was in fact deeply misleading.)

- which is how she's carpet-bombing the state with junk texts and ads.Stay informed, stay safe, stay crypto-bro-free.

Ugh. Angie Craig is pretty damned bleah, but this surprises even me — even coming from a PAC and not her own campaign.
