This confirms the extortion aspect, US only wanted to sell weapons commercially to the Ukraine after signing of the mineral deal. Still for Ukraine it is a good deal in the short term, they need all the weapons they can get to survive.

Ofcourse Ukraine will finish the mineral deal with the USA. Just to buy time, maybe get some US weapons for some time, when enough independence is achieved the agreement will simply be broken i guess, with good reasons as it is pure extortion.

Trumps überdimensionale Forderungen und der Druck, den er anderweitig aufbaut, sind hoffentlich einfach seine übliche Verhandlungstaktik für den Deal, von der sich Zelenskyi glaube ich nicht übermäßig beeindrucken lässt (der kennt da gerade viel Schlimmeres)

Saying Zelensky shouldn't sign the mineral deal is easy. But people in Ukraine are doing the fighting and dying. Also Zelensky can not fight without US support , at least in the short term. So he really has no choice. Let's hope the agreement has improved.
My guess is that with the deal he will also try to secure some fundamental important aspects of a future ceasefire that Trump can take with him in the talks with Russia.

Thinking about it, if you have the optimistic view that the Trump administration is a discontinuity, a bad mineral deal with Ukraine now is something that can be corrected/amended by future US administrations after Trump and for the short term there are more important things ? So let Trump take the "win"' and extract as much concessions from him after that as possible.
