Zwischen den Jahren hat man endlich mal Zeit dafür: "Millennium Actress" von Satoshi Kon zu schauen. Großartiger Film des leider viel zu früh gestorbenen Regisseurs über das Leben einer Schauspielerin und zugleich Einblicke in die Geschichte Japans im 20. Jahrhundert, erzählt durch eine geradezu hypnotische Mischung von Rückblicken und Szenen der Filme, in denen sie mitspielte. In dieser Form der Erzählweise vielleicht nicht jedermans Geschmack. Aber zumindest Bilder, Animation und Inszenierung sind großartig. Mindestens für alle, die Satoshi Kons Filme mögen, unbedingt empfehlenswert!

First #AnimeDay of 2023 went well!
I cooked marinaded chicken thighs on skewers, with fried rice.
We watched Millennium Actress, and Belle
I hadn't seen either movie before.
Millennium Actress is fantastic in the way it mixes memories / movie fragments / present time; one of my friends has recently been watching classic live action Japanese movies and caught many many references. I was reminded of @[email protected]'s Radiance, both for the love of cinema and for the style of reconstructing a life from documentary fragments.
Belle… is visually stunning, with good music, and a story that's at times very engaging. But it leaves some plot points way too implicit, and the conflict resolution in the end is… wrong? Like, boy, that's really not what you should be doing in the future, you've been doing that all along and what necessitated your actions is the whole problem
Ahem.
