Today was #AnimeDay! Five people this time, I cooked a chicken&spinach risotto, and a whipped tofu shortbread pie. We finished ODDTAXI and we all agree that it's a great story.

Another #AnimeDay done!
Six people is really the most I can cater for; the leek&potato soup came out a bit more… concentrated that planned, but it was still pretty well received.
We watched ODDTAXI, about which I've written in my recommendation list:A city populated by anthropomorphic animals, a taxi driver, the surprisingly interwoven lives of his clients. It reminded me of Durarara!! both for the semi-fantastical urban setting, and for the writers' ability to tie many plot lines together.
Today I'd add that it rewards a second watch, offering up plenty of little details that are very easily missed the first time through. -
First #AnimeDay of 2023 went well!
I cooked marinaded chicken thighs on skewers, with fried rice.
We watched Millennium Actress, and Belle
I hadn't seen either movie before.
Millennium Actress is fantastic in the way it mixes memories / movie fragments / present time; one of my friends has recently been watching classic live action Japanese movies and caught many many references. I was reminded of @[email protected]'s Radiance, both for the love of cinema and for the style of reconstructing a life from documentary fragments.
Belle… is visually stunning, with good music, and a story that's at times very engaging. But it leaves some plot points way too implicit, and the conflict resolution in the end is… wrong? Like, boy, that's really not what you should be doing in the future, you've been doing that all along and what necessitated your actions is the whole problem
Ahem.
