Well then, predictions for Cyclone Jasper are getting more precise. Right now, modelling shows an almost direct hit with Cairns and Mareeba on Wednesday, category kind-of-scary.

I still expect it to divert, probably to the south, but that's based on what the last few did, not science. I am slightly more nervous than I was this morning.

I've been a bit preoccupied with the whole single-parent thing, I haven't spent much time in the back yard. It's so dry out there that even the weeds are dying, and the grass is crunchy underfoot.
Once, late October was the beginning of the storm season in #Mareeba, building up through to the end of the year when the monsoon starts to swing around. Not any more, we probably won't see any real rain til February.

My son found a bowerbird bower a few blocks from home. I think it's a Great Bowerbird (that's its name, not my opinion).

The male builds this tunnel, and carefully arranges pale grey bits and pieces in an exact pattern, bigger at the front, smaller near the tunnel, shiny out the back. Then he stands in it. The foreshortening makes him look huge and sexy.
