- #WaterConsumption. A well-established native garden needs roughly 30-60% less supplemental water than an equivalent ornamental scheme. In #drought-restricted areas, this is the difference between a garden that survives summer and one that doesn't.
- Climate match. Indigenous species evolved with your specific climate. They handle your typical heatwaves, frost events, soil pH, and rainfall pattern without intervention.
- #Biodiversity. Indigenous plants support indigenous insects (which feed birds, lizards, small mammals), provide nectar for #NativeBees and #honeyeaters, and offer nesting habitat. A 12-month-old native garden is visibly more biologically active than a typical ornamental scheme.
- Lower input over time. Less feeding, less spraying, less ongoing intervention once established (typically 12-24 months).
- #Bushfire considerations. Some native species (low-flammability plants) are actively recommended in bushfire-prone areas; others (high-oil species) should be avoided or kept away from structures. Native ≠ automatically fire-safe; design matters."Learn more:

I recommend looking at #Australian #Bushfire preparedness as we have regular catastrophic #wilfire including royal commissions and postmortems.
Some of the key differences.
1. Leave early. Or risk getting stuck in a traffic jam in a firestorm. Catastrophic fires move fast and the fire embers restarting fires move 20+ kilometers.
2. Find out if your community has a wildfire refuge, it maybe as simple as a sports grounds

On a 'Total Fire Ban' day, it is not illegal to: use a grinder in the long grass, weld bits onto your grease-encrusted harvester, strip paint with a heat gun, run a spotlight under a helicopter.
Not illegal, but ...
Not Clever.Be clever. Stop. Have a bit of a think, work out where the sparks might land.
Maybe leave that job for another day. Maybe do your invoices or tax.
Maybe call your mum. -
