My wife and Inhad this for lunch at the Salcedo Market. It is the best shawarma we have had in the Philippines.
I looked up their restaurant, and it’s over an hour away from this area and where we live 😭

Back in Manila – A Walk through Malate, Pasay and Makati (Poblacion)
Walking in Manila on a sweaty 20 km weekend route from Rizal Park through Malate and Pasay to Makati’s Poblacion – street life, wrong turns, cold brew, and a surprise fiesta.

Two hours ago (2025-07-12 24:00) there was fire near us, on the next street. This was third time a fire broke out near us, that I can remember. Twice in the evening, once in the morning. It reminds you to be extra careful and how nothing is permanent. #Makati #Philippines

What’s going on in Makati? It’s 1:30 on a Thursday and all the lots around Greenbelt are full and have a line. We checked 4 different lots.
I’ve never seen it so crowded in the afternoon before.

This second map is of #Makati (one of the cities in Metro Manila) where the building footprints from Bing Maps ML (red) and OSM (blue) are directly shown on top of each other.
As you can see, the Bing buildings are easily seen to have low quality. Makati is the #Philippines’ financial capital and has tons of skyscrapers. It’s pretty obvious that the ML model is confused by the off-nadir buildings.

A short public announcement from yours truly, a concerned citizen. There's a foreigner who identified himself as #Thai, roaming around Washington Sycip Park & immediate area in #Makati #Philippines , asking for a fare to #Tagaytay .
He's suspicious because after I gently apologized that I can't help & I was about to suggest to go to the #Thailand embassy, he quickly left. I already reported it to the security in the area.
If there are foreigners stranded for whatever reason, direct them to their embassy or the local authorities. Don't give them money, & don't go with them if they keep on walking. Also look around you.
It's fine to assist foreigners, but don't forget your own safety & security. Not because we're in our own land does it mean we have the advantage.

#Makati in 1942 and in 2024
Makati is a city in the #Philippines 🇵🇭 and is one of the 17 entities that compose the administrative region of Metro Manila. Until recently, Makati and its neighbor #Taguig, had a decades-long territorial dispute over the former American military base Fort William McKinley with the Supreme Court ruling in 2023 that the base’s territory belongs to Taguig.
If you’re curious, there’s a decent Wikipedia article about the dispute: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makati%E2%80%93Taguig_boundary_dispute

See #Makati in the attached map in the post above? That's where we live, and work.
According to the #PHIVOLCS FaultFinder app, we are only 5.2 km away (straight line) from the nearest West Valley Fault System.
I can easily run 5 km between 50 and 60 min (in 2020, I can do 5 for 35 to 40 min)). That's how close we are. (And it is my major reason why I avoid working in Taguig and Pasig, again.)
Not to mention, the type of soil underneath our cities, and liquefaction, also matter big time. (It affects the “intensity” of an earthquake, which is different from “magnitude”.)
We can't just leave. Where else should we go? Forget about the other natural disasters, earthquakes have recently occurred in places initially thought of should not have any; or at least have no recorded earthquake or oral history. It can happen anywhere.
Our best move is to be prepared.

Last night in #Batangas in the #Philippines. Tomorrow I’m heading back to Metro Manila and explore #BGC and #Poblacion in #Makati.

#Moovr launches new #electricBikes, #scooters around BGC, Makati, McKinley Hill
Wow! 😃👍
"The units ... cannot be used yet for travel between #BGC, #Makati, and McKinley Hill as there are no charging hubs yet outside of BGC."
What a joke. 🙄
Oh well, #BetterThanZero 🤷♀️
I love my budget #eBikes. I can ride to BGC and back again to QC ±30km on 1 full charge and still have plenty* to make rounds in the adjacent barangays.

Can anyone recommend a good vet in the Mandaluyong/Rockwell area? I’ve been to Biyaya as they are pretty close, but the doctors there are not that friendly and my cats got fleas the last time they were there.

It looks like @pinoy|s around #Makati will be enjoying car-free Sunday mornings along Ayala Avenue, and around Ayala Triangle for the month of September.
This bodes well for local communities, pedestrians and @padyak enthusiasts, and maybe a good time to explore what remains of Makati's #bicycle lanes.
This isn't the first in the #Philippines, and if memory serves me right, #Pasig pioneered it with their #PeoplesStreets program

Happy 125th Independence from Spain my beloved Nation, the Philippines!
(Which ironically, we're still using the name they gave us.)
For today's independence post, let's talk a bit about General Pío del Pilar.
The attached image is the KKK (Katipunan) flag used by General Pío del Pilar, the namesake of barangay Pio del Pilar, #Makati City.
His flag was called “Bandila ng Matagumpay” (en: “Flag of the Triumphants”) and was first used on July 11, 1895. (And his KKK faction was called “Matagumpay” (en: “Triumphants”)
Pío del Pilar was a force to reckoned with. He liberated , defended, and participated in many battles against the Spaniards. Some of these places we know today as Mandaluyong City, Las Piñas City, the Municipality of Pateros, Taguig, the province of Nueva Ecija, parts of Cavite province, and Calamba City (in the province of Laguna), to mention a few. (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%ADo_del_Pilar )
Fun facts:
* General Pío del Pilar was born in Barrio Culi-culi, San Pedro de Macati.* Barrio Culi-culi is today's barangays Pio del Pilar and Bangkal.
* While San Pedro de Macati is now Makati City.
* His father was a farmer from Pasay City (one of the oldest cities in the country, and itself was a “kingdom” in pre-colonial times, named after Dayang-dayang (princess) Pasay, daughter of Rajah Sulayman of the “kingdom” of Maynila).
* And his mother was an embroider from Mandaluyong City.
