While large language models and AI as a whole are not new, it is undeniable how they are now directly affecting our lives and have become a major part of public discourse over the […]

🌿☕It would be remiss today not to shout out #macquariedictionary who have given "enshittification" as it's word of the year Where services that matter & that were once good, then turn into great piles of shit I think we can all relate to that 💃 @susiedent.com www.theguardian.com/science/2024...

Oh this has been a source of debate over the cheap red plonk in our house, yes.The players in this scene are a lawyer, an idiot, and a cat.
(The #cat has no #Scrabble opinion beyond 'these pale squares are up here. They need to be down there. I will help them fall down. Mmmmm')Idiot: 'It's a word'
Lawyer: 'let's settle this by reading the rules, they're written under the lid of the box'
Idiot: <gets box>
<reads rule 8 aloud>
<misses out on most of the rather nice Aldi Marzipan chocolate.>
oh.
<plays AQUA / QI with the Q on a triple letter>.
Lawyer: oof.<next day>
The idiot has now taken photos for the purpose of posting to this silly place. There is no mention of slang under the box lid.
Also, the dictionary entry indicates no capital, no dot of abbreviation, no foreigness.(thank you #Australian#Labor#Party governments of the past for funding the #Macquarie University and its glorious filth-filled #MacquarieDictionary )

Playing scrabble with my Mum, the #MacquarieDictionary yielded:
QUILTBAG
As in:
"Dutts, mate, leave it alone, it's a QUILTBAG issue"My Mum, a quilter, was unreasonably pleased with it and has vowed to use it at her retirement village Canasta circle soon.

Received/gave the #Macquarie #Dictionary (ninth edition, forward by Markus Zusak) for Christmas yesterday.
https://www.macquariedictionary.com.au/blog/article/908/OF COURSE I LOOKED UP 'FUCKWIT' FIRST. I suspect that this is Australia's leviathan contribution to the English language. An idea: there should be a little post-it flag on this page, a quiet acknowledgement that we are all in/of the gutter. The Macquarie does not disappoint. For 'fuck', there are 27 definitions. And also 'fuck truck' oh joy! Just lovely work.
Thank you MacQ. Eds.I have this small bone to pick though - 'fuckery' is absent. What kind of 'fuckery' fuckery is this? (I miss Amy.)
