Turns out the update made #BaldursGate3 incompatible with #macOSBigSur. Once I finally upgraded the OS, the game launched.

On the other hand I'm currently in the middle of a #powerOutage, so I can't really play it on what my laptop battery can provide. Gonna have to wait a little bit longer to get back on.

Krótko po wydaniu macOS Big Sur w 2020 roku Apple doświadczyło szeroko zakrojonych awarii serwerów, co wpłynęło na instalacje macOS, iMessage, Apple Pay i, przede wszystkim, na usługę notaryzacji. To spowodowało, że użytkownicy mieli poważne problemy z uruchamianiem tych aplikacji i usług, ujawniając wadę w sposobie ich weryfikacji przez Apple.

Podczas uruchamiania aplikacji na Macu przeprowadzane są dwie weryfikacje: sprawdzanie, czy aplikacja nie jest złośliwym oprogramowaniem, oraz czy certyfikat dewelopera jest nadal ważny. To tzw. App Notarization. Gdy Mac jest poza zasięgiem sieci, te sprawdzenia zazwyczaj się nie powiodą, a aplikacja uruchomi się normalnie. Jednak podczas awarii serwerów macOS nadal próbował sprawdzać serwery, co spowodowało znaczne opóźnienia w uruchamianiu aplikacji.

Po tym incydencie Apple zapowiedziało zmiany, w tym opcję pozwalającą użytkownikom całkowicie zrezygnować z weryfikacji online. Zmiany miały zostać wprowadzone w 2021 roku. Apple obiecało m.in. zaprzestanie rejestrowania adresów IP powiązanych z kontrolą certyfikatów oraz wprowadzenie nowego protokołu szyfrowania.

Mimo że Apple wprowadziło niektóre zmiany, nadal brak opcji rezygnacji z weryfikacji online, a odniesienia do tej funkcji zostały usunięte z dokumentacji.

Wydaje się, że firma porzuciła plany umożliwienia użytkownikom uruchamiania aplikacji bez weryfikacji online, co jest rozczarowujące. Chociaż Apple mogło wprowadzić inne zmiany w macOS, aby uniknąć problemów z uruchamianiem aplikacji w przyszłości, brak jasności w tej sprawie jest niepokojący.
