Und wieder ein Rechner gerettet, den meiner Mutter. AMD #Athlon 64 X2 (2007) mit MS Vista (!) läuft nun stabil und recht flott mit #LXLE 32bit- Edition für mindestens noch 3 bis 4 Jahre als Surf- und Büromaschine. LXLE basiert auf #Lubuntu und das wiederum auf #Ubuntu (und das wiederum auf #Debian), stellt aber eine 32bit- Edition bereit.
Lässt sich auch optisch an die Bedürfnisse einer Ex- Vista- Userin anpassen 😜👍 -

@berniethewordsmith Mmm... La distro #LXLE viene con 100 wallpapers muy bonitos. No sé si se pueden encontrar buscándolos por algún sitio sin tener que instalar esa distro.

Captura de pantalla de #LXLE en un Toshiba de 2010 con 4 GB de RAM que uso como ordenador secundario. El sistema arranca con sólo 331 MB de RAM.

Pues la semana que viene es muy posible que cambie la distro de mi portátil secundario (el que más uso para navegar cuando tengo tiempo libre), que variaré de #LinuxMint con #XFCE a #LXLE con #LXDE, que es aún mucho más ligero, ya que el hardware que es de hace 14 años tiene 4 GB de RAM y un procesador a 2 Ghz y ya va lento o se bloquea haciendo algunas tareas como ver algunos videos en línea y descargar o transferir archivos haciendo cualquier otra cosa mientras (no puede con ambas tareas a la vez). El último cambio lo hice hace un año, pero pasado ese tiempo, creo que necesita una nueva actualización a algo que consuma aún menos.

Me sorprende y decepciona bastante la poca privacidad de #Firefox por defecto. No esperaba eso de ellos.
Fuertemente configurado puede ser bastante privado, pero hay que enfangarse en hacer un montón de configuraciones e incluso luego otro montón más en una ventana oculta que es inaccesible a simple vista para estar realmente seguros de que el nivel de privacidad el alto.
Eso no está al alcance de un usuario medio. Llevo años usando #Firefox y me estoy planteando cambiarlo por #LibreWolf y/o #Mulvad.
Con #Firefox, pensaba que cambiando el motor de búsqueda predeterminado de Google a otro, estaba libre, pero el acuerdo que tienen con Google para hacer que su buscador ser al predeterminado incluye el envío de "cierta información anónima" a Google.
No entiendo cómo sigue siendo el navegador predeterminado de #Linux (salvo en excepciones, como #LXLE) después algo así.
No basta con que algo sea de código abierto para confiar en ello, hay que investigar para enterarse de estas cosas.

Finally got #samba working again, again, on my #LXLE #Focal64 #linux box.
So annoying that it seems to regularly break after samba is updated.
This time I just could not get it to work again no matter how much I tinkered with smb.conf. In the end I just purged samba and reinstalled it.
After I added my smb user, added a share and restarted smbd, it all just worked . Now able to browse and read/write linux->windows and vice -versa! Hurrah!
And that smb.conf file has also been backed up...

This time I just could not get it to work again no matter how much I tinkered with smb.conf. In the end I just purged samba and reinstalled it.
After I added my smb user, added a share and restarted smbd, it all just worked . Now able to browse and read/write linux->windows and vice -versa! Hurrah!
And that smb.conf file has also been backed up...

Also, trying to connect as a client to other servers failed. Eventually decided to blow away the smb.conf file, replacing it with the default. After that I was able to start the smbd service. Then able to connect to shares and advertise them too. No idea why the "as installed" smb.conf file was such a mess, and needed to be exterminated 😠

Laptop #2 is this HP Mini 210 #netbook I got from a friend who was getting rid of it. With a 1.6 GHz single core Atom and 512 MB of RAM, it struggled to run Windows 7. I boosted the RAM to 2 GB, put in an SSD, and installed #lxle #linux - an extremely lightweight distro based on Ubuntu with the LXDE desktop. It... is still struggling. The only thing it's really good for is typing, and the keyboard is way too small and uncomfortable even for that. Maybe I'll use it as a file server or something.

The only thing it's really good for is typing, and the keyboard is way too small and uncomfortable even for that. Maybe I'll use it as a file server or something.
