For the last day of #LesbianVisibilityWeek I want to tell you about the nun Benedetta Carlini who became subject of an ecclesiastical investigation in the 17th century CE.
In her confession fellow nun Bartolomea Crivelli describes a more than two year long affair during which Carlini would start “kissing her as if she were a man, she would speak words of love to her. And she would stir on top of her so much that both of them corrupted themselves.” -
Very little is known about #Sappho's life and of her body of work only a few hundred lines with one or two complete poems survive. And yet her beautiful poetry captivates readers even 2500 years after her death.
Find out more about the woman whose passionate poetry is the reason 'sapphic' and 'lesbian' are terms for women loving women:

In support of #LWithTheT I want to tell you the story of Megillos told in Dialogues of the Courtesans 5.3. by Lukian of Samosata:
Two rich women, Megilla and Demonassa, hire the flute-girl Leaina to play at a party. When they try to persuade her to go to bed with them, Megilla takes off her wig, revealing a close-cropped hairstyle like an athlete. "Don't treat me like a woman," Megilla says, "my name is Megillos. Demonassa is my wife."
