For the last day of #LesbianVisibilityWeek I want to tell you about the nun Benedetta Carlini who became subject of an ecclesiastical investigation in the 17th century CE.
In her confession fellow nun Bartolomea Crivelli describes a more than two year long affair during which Carlini would start “kissing her as if she were a man, she would speak words of love to her. And she would stir on top of her so much that both of them corrupted themselves.”

Two rich women, Megilla and Demonassa, hire the flute-girl Leaina to play at a party. When they try to persuade her to go to bed with them, Megilla takes off her wig, revealing a close-cropped hairstyle like an athlete. "Don't treat me like a woman," Megilla says, "my name is Megillos. Demonassa is my wife."
