The second away mission is about getting the transceiver to the highest point. They pan up so slowly that it looks like neither Kate nor Sayid had quite realised they were on an island with a mountain on it. #lost

Second flashback, Charlie's version of the crash, /now/ it feels format-establishing. A different perspective, new context, additional information.

Whatever methcrack it is Charlie's supposed to be doing, it's almost sand coloured. Walter White would kill a man before agreeing to ship this. #lost

Charlie's addiction issues — which the show eventually vision quests him out of — does feel like one of the more exceedingly 2004 elements of this pilot. Something about the execution of it, somehow. #lost

The show goes into boars and things, polar bears, here and there, but there's never a real, ongoing sense that the flora and fauna of the Island is particularly dangerous to them most of the time.

The smoke monster — bye Greg Grunberg — feels like the stand-in for all that stuff. The ununderstandable danger of a place like this. It might as well be a bear. #lost

Every quest — here, the transceiver in the nose section — is still such an ordeal. Climbing up the thing, bodies all over the place, genuinely a bit horrific.

Eventually the show kinda shrugs things like this off.
