Wynton Learson Marsalis (born October 18, 1961) is an American trumpeter, composer, music instructor, and the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has been active in promoting classical and jazz music, often to young audiences. Marsalis has won nine Grammy Awards, and his 1997 oratorio Blood on the Fields was the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Marsalis is the only musician to have won a Grammy Award in both jazz and classical categories in the same year.

Wynton Marsalis, founder and first artistic director of Jazz at the Lincoln Center, will be stepping down after nearly 40 years in the role.

The Board of Directors at the center announced Thursday that Marsalis will transition from his current role as artistic and administrative leader over the next two years.

Marsalis is one of the most influential figures in the industry. As one of the most recognizable faces at Lincoln Center, he helped move jazz into the prestigious cultural institution.

"When we established Jazz at Lincoln Center in 1987, our goal was to build an enduring jazz institution that would both entertain and educate by exposing multi-generational audiences to an often-overlooked aspect of American culture, and I am proud of the tremendous progress we've made," Marsalis said in a statement.

I take personal protective equipment serious.

Never ever think that I would expose my ears to that amount of decibels without any proper ear protection.

When I need to pressure check a Public Address System I use the earmuffs in the photograph.

The quality of the audio entering the ears is not important then

You just need to hear that it plays.

When I actually listen to the colour of the Audio I have other types of transparent ear protection

Never expose your ears to a Public Address System running at 90 plus decibels while standing at 6 m or less in front of it for more than 180 seconds.

IMHO The Box is one of the best albums that Orbital has created. Of course I'm talking about the massive, enormous extended version, which is more than 20 minutes long!
I'm not going to describe the album to you, if this style is of your interest, just buy it and listen to it or just preview it on any of the tubes.

This is a number I would like to hear in a discotheque, with

• four 18 inch subwoofers
• eight 15 inch full range speakers
• six 12 inch full range speakers
• all playing at 84 decibels, in a venue which is the size of a small house

Chic (stylized CHIC; /ʃiːk/ SHEEK) is an American disco band founded in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards.[1] Between 1972 and 1979, Chic released several of the biggest hits of the disco era, including "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), "Everybody Dance" (1977), "Le Freak" (1978), "I Want Your Love" (1978), and "Good Times" (1979). The group regarded themselves as a rock band for the disco movement "that made good on hippie peace, love and freedom".[2] In 2017, Chic was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the eleventh time.[3] As of 2025, Rodgers and Chic continue to perform as Nile Rodgers & Chic.

Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the late 1960s from the United States' urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, brass and horns, electric pianos, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars.

Chic (stylized CHIC; /ʃiːk/ SHEEK) is an American disco band founded in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards.[1] Between 1972 and 1979, Chic released several of the biggest hits of the disco era, including "Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)" (1977), "Everybody Dance" (1977), "Le Freak" (1978), "I Want Your Love" (1978), and "Good Times" (1979). The group regarded themselves as a rock band for the disco movement "that made good on hippie peace, love and freedom".[2] In 2017, Chic was nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the eleventh time.[3] As of 2025, Rodgers and Chic continue to perform as Nile Rodgers & Chic.

Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the late 1960s from the United States' urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, brass and horns, electric pianos, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars.

Discothèques as a venue were mostly a French invention, imported to the United States with the opening of Le Club, a members-only restaurant and nightclub located at 416 East 55th Street in Manhattan, by French expatriate Olivier Coquelin, on New Year's Eve 1960.[5]

Bitches Brew is a studio album by the American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Miles Davis. It was recorded from August 19 to 21, 1969, at Columbia's Studio B in New York City and released on March 30, 1970, by Columbia Records. It marked Davis's continuing experimentation with electric instruments that he had featured on his previous record, the critically acclaimed In a Silent Way (1969). With these instruments, such as the electric piano and guitar, Davis departed from traditional jazz rhythms in favor of loose, rock-influenced arrangements based on improvisation. The final tracks were edited and pieced together by producer Teo Macero.
