The reason I love #Ladds500 so much is that it crystalizes Portland's optimism and defiance. In all honesty, in terms of infrastructure, leadership & safety, PDX is a mediocre to substandard city for people who bike. Yet people who bike here celebrate, in costume, loudly, joyously, whole-heartedly.

Went to the #ladds500 today and got me some 50 ish laps in, which is roughly 10 miles. For those who don't know, the Ladds 500 is a relay race around a traffic circle in SE #PDX. The number 500 is the number of laps around the circle to make 100 miles. The motto of the ride is "Let's do something stupid"
This year felt joyful with people on the sidelines handing out pancakes, ice cream, hot dogs, and other goodies to the riders.
Rode in and back from Beaverton for a grand total of 45 miles.

> The 7th First Annual Ladds 500 took place in southeast Portland today and it was absolutely amazing. Well over 500 people (estimated!) pedaled circles around Ladd Circle Park until they hit 100 miles. They began at 10:00 am and some of them are probably still pedaling as I type this.
