Block was short lived. Apparently it was indeed part of the war against online gambling because there are so many site redirects by gambling site operators using WordPress.
After including the WordPress domain on the blocklist yesterday, the Kominfo team must have realized they blocked way more than what they wanted and lifted it within the past hour.

So this happened. Indonesia just banned WordPress. The Communications Ministry hasn’t provided a reason.

Two years ago when Indonesia was bombarded by data theft by a hacker known as Bjorka, to the point that it became a household name that year, the Communications Ministry’s Director General of Apps and Informatics, Semmy Pangerapan, made a despondent plea asking hackers to not attack the country if they can help it because the victims are regular people.
The plea was made after Bjorka managed to obtain 1.3 billion Indonesian SIM card data which included names, addresses, phone numbers, ID numbers, and more.

Looks like Kominfo blocked software deployment platform Vercel which also houses the popular Indonesian word game Katla. The platform’s domain is found on the Kominfo block list.

Deputy Communications Minister Nezar Patria denied the Ministry blocked the Google Docs URL despite evidence and inability to access the service since last night. He seems to insinuate a rogue staff or a mistake in the URL’s addition to the blocklist.
Docs remain inaccessible to a number of users in Indonesia, but should be cleared for most by now.

Indonesia’s Communications Ministry added Google Docs to its list of banned websites for several hours before removing it this morning.
The entire Docs suite became inaccessible during the time it was banned but seems to have returned to normal now. Database search on the block list now returns no result for the Google Docs domain.

An unnamed private individual returned Rp27 billion in cash in US dollars to Irwan Hermawan, the company executive implicated in the Kominfo 4G BTS graft case who earlier claimed he gave the money to now Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo a few years ago.
The Minister appears to have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Attorney General’s Office after a 2 hour questioning yesterday.
How convenient that someone just happens to have USD 1.8 million in cash to hand over. That’s a fantastic amount of cash to keep around.

According to the AGO whatever money that the Minister may have received as a legislator, if at all, is unlikely to be related to the case.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dito Ariotedjo will face questioning by the Attorney General’s Office today after being named as a recipient of Rp27 billion of graft money from Kominfo’s unrealized 4G expansion program when he was a legislator for Golkar.
The 32 year old politician was appointed as Minister last April amidst revelations that former Kominfo Minister Johnny Plate was implicated in the manipulation and embezzlement of funds meant to expand the rollout of 4G network towers across the country between 2020-2021.
A report from the investigations named the now Sports Minister as a recipient of some of the funds, first reported by Tempo a week ago.
People had hopes for such a fresh faced high energy young politician in the cabinet. Do you think he’s going to beat the allegations?
