Asked at my favourite pcb source #Pcb4Diy for a small batch of the front plate circuit board of the #KneisnerM100. They have used a modified one with several incompatibilties when using original cpu board.

A short idea of mine. Based on the serial number of our #KneisnerM100, I'd guess it was manufactured in October 1978. It starts with 7810 and a following 01 at the end. I don't think they manufactured and sold 1001 of them in 1978. Would you agree?

But after a complete full compile of the whole directory the switching to turbo mode works now.
So, at least I've been able to address one of the two outstanding issues today. Tomorrow I'll be back at the museum to see if I can convince the move-it software to transfer a file using an old 486 and a real serial port.

The #KneisnerM100 has finally arrived in its natural habitat. Even though it takes up quite a bit of space, it's found a nice spot next to its successful Z80 successors from England. It also survived transport in the car well and is now booting its #TurboDOS smoothly.

The little #RC2014 #Z180 computer is finally running. I had some initial difficulties because power via the serial-to-USB adapter was a bit weak. With an external power supply, it's now running rock-stable. And believe me, it's much more faster than the #KneisnerM100 😀
The crystal oscillator will, of course, be replaced with a smaller one. This is a bit experimental at the moment ;)

Both cases of the #KneisnerM100 are fully closed and #TurboDOS system is running fine from HDD. Also I adjusted the monitor view sizes inside the the #TeleVideo VTI-912C terminal.
Finish and mission accomplished

What a beauty the #KneisnerM100 has become. My daily work would be called "case modding" nowadays ;) It literally appears in a completely different light now ;) Tomorrow I'll be working on the expansion box, so after a year and a half, I can tick off this exciting project.
If any of you are coming to the HNF in Paderborn in October: The current plan is to bring it to the RCT at 11th & 12th of October 2025.

This is the first exklusive preview to the new housing of the #KneisnerM100. A German relabeled #Imsai8080.
Last steps to do is to mount all components properly and some electrical wiring for fan aso.

Design export picture of the new case for the #IMSAI8080 clone called #KneisnerM100. Only have to order the acrylic glas at weekend.

We're one step further, the #KneisnerM100 can now finally be programmed in a high-level language like #Pascal.
Say hello, m100 - see picture ;)
Not that we do it, but we can now. It was really tricky to put software to the hdd, but I found a tool called 22disk, which can write from and to #IMSTurboDOS.

I do several experiments to get a bit more HDD space for the #TurboDOS in the #KneisnerM100. My attempts some time ago were not so successful, but I had an idea last night.

After fiddeling around to find a good terminal emulation program for simulating a #TeleVideo terminal I'm gone back to the roots. ZOC was an alternative, but it does not run under #Linux.
It's also a kind of #RetroComputing to control the #KneisnerM100 with an old DOS program 😉 Now the display positions are correct and no annoying ctrl sequences as with VT100 or ANSI.

Looking through our store of MFM harddisks to find a compatible one, which is bigger as 5MB. Found one Rodtime RO-204, but with bearing damage. Horrible loud and not so reliable at the end. Searching ended with Seagate ST-412 which is with 10MB big enough for the needs of a #Z80 system with a TPA of ~44 kB driven.

Additional news about the #IMSAI8080 clone. Boot from HDD is the past and done. But booting from A: with GOTEK FlashFloppy as 5" ~800k is the next step of evolution. I also connected the original #TVI912C terminal for best compatibility.
On Saturday I'll look for a bigger compatible Winchester drive. Maybe there is something in stock to pimp it up a bit.

The #RCT was extremly useful to test the CPU & the RAM card. Found a defective buffer (LS244) and a NAND (LS38) chip. One of the thirtysix 416 RAM chips wasn't recognized while plugged in. Also broken. All others have passed the RAM test fine twice.
Step by step I see a small light at the end of the tunnel. But the machine doesn't what it should, so I have to wait for a replacement CPU.

As I imagine after heavy searching and the wayback machine. The #KneisnerM100 seems to be a relabeled #Imsai8080. The inside view of both is so close, including the buildin power supply.
Much more easier to find informations about!

*tltr, but nice* "Burning down the house" That #KneisnerM100 is really hot. And old, the power supply is labeled "Tested 14th July 1977!
Long story short: The CPU and memory card were not plugged in. Plugged it, powered on, boom and the smell of burned parts. As you see in pic: 10uF 25V are in heaven, replaced both ones. Second try, switched on - nothing spectacular is happening. But 7812, the bottom most, became very, very hot. Shortage of the capacitor right of it, also replaced it.
What can I say, the machine is doing things now. Address bits are flashing and ***Harddisk*** starts up. But not anymore, I suspect that you have to set the correct address in order to get a menu from the ROM via the terminal if necessary. So my daily plan was more than fulfilled! And have to correct myself, it runs with an Intel 8080 cpu. Not with Z80 as I thought, because of the Sharp MZ80 as later competitor.
