Man bets a bartender $300 he can piss across bar into cup without missing. He fails dramatically, spraying everywhere. The bartender wins. Laughing the man hands him the money. The bartender asks why he's laughing? The man says he bet some other patrons $1000 he could piss all over bar and bartender, and the bartender would still be laughing when he's done.

Polling is getting worse because technology is making it more likely that surveys are not responded to by a representative sample. But decisions are often made on that information.

So the betting sites take their place, but they can be manipulated by spending more money. And then that manipulation can be pushed back on with more money. The only way to make that manipulation impossible is by making the markets more widely adopted.

That's a great (shitty) business model.

I still can't shake off the loathing. I've found #Polymarket and #Kalshi revolting since the second I heard of 'prediction markets', but after that Guardian article, my opinion of them hit an absolute floor. #FML
