  1. CW: Religion, CSA

When I was a kid, the Jesus Army was a kooky group who wore colourful jackets and drove around in colourful buses. They were also a strict hierarchical community who separated children from their parents and engaged in mass child abuse, only shutting down in 2019.

  10. In Northamptonshire we've always known the Jesus Army was a cult and to avoid it.

This has been going on for decades, but Religion gets away with it again and again, doesn't it?

  15. I remember seeing the Jesus Army around when I lived in Leicester, but knew very little about them. I seem to remember they used "flirty fishing", where attractive young ladies would loiter on the streets trying to attract young men on the way out for the evening with the promise they could meet after worship. I have no doubt this put the women in danger.

  19. James Balmford was an English minister, and a Presbyterian elder. Here he writes on Christian responses to pandemics. He says that if the plague were in fact contagious, then the one who maintains that it is not, would be guilty of the blood of those encouraged to run into danger.

Today, you’d be selected to lead a health agency.

How can you stay well informed on health matters, and speak out against misinformation?
