  1. Surprise! #newBrunswick is getting a new 200 then 350MW #windfarm from our old friends #JDIrving.

The marketing material boasts it will eventually replace about 9% of provincial power demand that is currently supplied via #fossilFuels - if demand stays the same.

  2. "If the #WabanakiTribes were #sovereign, they would need to be consulted on every land-use decision that might impact their territory. Potential harms to human health, water and air quality, or plants and animals would be grounds for blocking commercial activity. The influential #MaineForestProductsCouncil lobbies for #timberland owners, #logging companies, and #mills, including Maine’s largest landowner, the Canada-based #JDIrving company, which controls 1.25 million acres in the state. It has also been one of the most forceful opponents of #TribalSovereignty, arguing that any additional regulatory hurdles would stifle economic activity in the #MaineWoods."

  7. For as long as I've been alive and longer, large industries like #irvingOil, #jdIrving, #repsol and others have paid - and I'm not overstating this - a penny on the dollar of their fair share.

Our politicians have signed **incredibly** generous 25 or 50 year contracts, absolving over a billion in taxes.

We have the highest child poverty, teen pregnancy, and sexual assault rates in the country.

Maybe it's time we balance the scales a little. Maybe we should tip them *a lot* and get back some of what we've lost. Build homes, feed kids, clean pollution, improve schools...

    > "We're passing a budget that puts a 10 per cent increase on residential taxes," HIckey said. "Heavy Industry's getting a discount. That's a story none of us can tell enough."
