  1. Wow. This is a good result!

"In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of Canada has created a new tort of intimate partner violence that will allow people to sue for damages when they have been subject to abuse in a relationship.

"Intimate partner violence is a pernicious social ill deserving of the full attention of the law," the summary of the majority judgement says in defining intimate partner violence.

"Best understood, it is not confined to conduct that inflicts physical or psychological injury, but includes all abusive conduct by which one intimate partner coerces and controls the other, thus depriving them of their autonomy.””

TITLE: Quebec Law Would Allow People to Obtain Partner Violence History

Source: Canadian Broadcasting Company - Canadian News

The Quebec government has introduced a bill aimed at helping prevent intimate partner violence. The law would allow people to obtain information about the conjugal violence history of their current or ex-partner. The bill has been referred to as the Gabie Renaud law, named after a woman whose partner killed her last year after being arrested dozens of times and convicted at least six times for incidents related to intimate partner violence.

  9. CW: intimate partner abuse

Note that women overwhelmingly kill their partners to escape their abuse, while men overwhelmingly kill their partners because a) their partners want to escape them, b) they want to marry someone else without loss of money/property/control of offspring, or c) both the above.

(this is from 2020--it's only gotten worse since)

  10. Survivors are everywhere & we take care of each other.

Abusers are everywhere & they enable each other (& claim to be the real victims).

They have no idea how strong & resilient we really are. When your focus is on centering healing & collective care, rather than ego & dominance, you rise together—in fact, you fly 🦋

The friendships & networks we forge are truly unstoppable.

  15. Hey Generous Folks -- I wanted to put a message up for 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. #16DaysAgainstGBV #16Days

Rather than an ask for donations, I want to encourage you to find your local spaces in your own community that help women and people of all genders who are fleeing gender based violence or intimate partner violence.

Maybe *you* can raise a few dollars, volunteer at a local space, or help out in other ways. Maybe you've never done that. It might seem scary! I guarantee you, you'll love it. Whether you raise $50 or $500, or nothing at all, by becoming part of it, you'll make a difference

I'm signing up, as I have for a few years now, for another year at Coldest Night of the Year (cnoy.org). It's a fundraising portal that you might have heard of. If you're not sure where to go to help... you can try that website and just search for your community there and see if any local services use it. It's very well run and effective.

Thank you for spending time today looking for a way to give back and help lift others.

And even if you don't, but you made it all the way to the end of this post, thanks. We all do what we can when we can.
