Today was my last day at Blackbird Digital. It took me 8 years, but I figured out what I'm good at and found my voice. I had fun, made some lifelong friends, and will miss hosting #InTheLoop.
Stay tuned for what's next—see you on the other side.

The #WordPress Theme Developer Handbook is out of date! Block themes are the future of WordPress, and Justin Tadlock is leading the charge to update the handbook... and you can help!

Custom blocks in themes will not pass #WordPress theme review, but you can still customize core blocks! You can do a lot with a className.
But if you're building a plugin, you have Justin's permission to go wild, use custom attributes even.

#InTheLoop has been featured again in the @gutenbergtimes from @bph for episode 28 with Justin Tadlock!
-
Have you added custom controls in #Gutenberg before? Wondering why you'd want to do that in a theme? Justin Tadlock's Beyond Block Styles series on the #WordPress developer blog has you covered.
If you haven't yet read them and you do custom theme work, you're doing a disservice to yourself!

Engagement (likes, shares, comments) on the podcast socials are low as per usual, but In The Loop episode 28 with Justin Tadlock is the most popular episode on release day to date, clocking in at 52 listens!

#InTheLoop is back with a new episode!
▶ 28: Writing Block Themes with Justin Tadlock
I am joined by Justin Tadlock of Automattic to talk about his series of articles on the WordPress developer blog about adding custom controls to core blocks, theme scaffolding, and workflow scripts.

Excited to put out the next #InTheLoop episode, hopefully Wednesday! I spoke with Justin Tadlock about his recent #WordPress developer blog articles about adding custom controls to core blocks, theme scaffolds, workflows, and more. While not in the recording, we both also agree that the Cherokee Purple is the best tomato.

Well dang, I've been so swamped I forgot to put together another audiogram for #InTheLoop to release today... I guess there's always next week.
-
Just finished creating audiogram #1 for #InTheLoop to go out tomorrow, and also pushed a new minor version of wp-theme-scaffold. Both of these things are technically for work but I'm definitely not being paid enough to do these things at/until 10pm. I do feel that these things benefit me more than the company though.

Out today on #InTheLoop:
▶️ 27: It's Time for Core Fields with Scott Kingsley Clark
We talk with @skc about Pods vs ACF (in a friendly non-competitive way), the Core Fields API project, and the JavaScriptification of the #WordPress admin.

In the latest episode of #InTheLoop, Fränk Klein made a great analogy for modern #WebDesign as sticking to a specific scale in blues music. Paradigm shifts in #WordPress and the rest of the web towards ease of customization call for greater collaboration between developers and designers.

Of course I didn't have time to sort out an #ActivityPub feed for #InTheLoop yet...
-
@aurooba @briancoords Ok so I know both of you were on the show last year, but would you be interested in coming back on #InTheLoop together to talk about #WordPress and #podcast -ing sometime soon?
