После долгих обсуждений и гигантского опроса игроков конкурс IFComp 2026 вводит новое правило: всё, что представляется игроку, включая обложку игры, должно быть полностью создано человеками.

Авторы могут продолжать использовать инструменты по своему выбору для помощи в разработке: вычитки, отладке, поддержке доступности для незрячих, поиска информации, ограниченной помощи в переводе, и программировании. Заявки не могут требовать от судей или игроков взаимодействия с внешним ИИ или генеративными сервисами во время игры.

The new #IFComp rule forbids authors from using genAI to produce any text or art assets in their entries, or having players interact with AI systems during play. Authors can use AI for things like research and coding assistance if they want, but everything players directly experience must now be wholly human-produced.

I am on the comp advisory committee, and was one of many folks taking part in this discussion, guided by player surveys. I feel happy with where it ended up. #InteractiveFiction

This is all partly inspired by having played through, judged and reviewed loads of IFComp interactive fiction games in recent weeks. And it's that time of year (my favourite!) when I'm keen to work on new projects. Or in this case pick up an old one! I hope to enter this game in IFComp 2026. #IFComp #interactiveFiction #game #gameDev #IndieGame

Today I submitted my largest ever entry to the annual Interactive Fiction Competition. 49,506 words according to the Inform interpreter, and 57,968 if you include all my comments in the code. It's been a truly monstrous amount of work - I'm planning to take at least a couple of days off before getting started on my entry for 2026.

I'm really quite happy with this. Characters now respond to "ask X about themselves" etc., but will distinguish between "himself" and "herself." It's a small detail, but I think it helps conversation feel more natural and avoids situations where a straightforward "ask" command with an existing response simply generates "There is no reply."
