  29. By my very rough calculations it will take the Icelandic volcano somewhere between 4 and 8 hours of erupting to put out as much lava (in weight) as the US produced in steel last year. I am thinking that lava and steel have similar densities and temps, which is why I thought of this comparison. I am most likely incorrect about the former, but it helps me a bit to wrap my head around this kind of event.
