The coastal town of Grindavik, had been re-evacuating earlier today. The eruption is north of this town.

By my very rough calculations it will take the Icelandic volcano somewhere between 4 and 8 hours of erupting to put out as much lava (in weight) as the US produced in steel last year. I am thinking that lava and steel have similar densities and temps, which is why I thought of this comparison. I am most likely incorrect about the former, but it helps me a bit to wrap my head around this kind of event.

Maybe another trip to Iceland is on the cards 🤔 🇮🇸 🌋 (although I’m literally on the other side of the planet the next weeks 😂) ! A new eruption occurred after days of strong earthquakes, very close to last years’ fissures, seen in these photos taken in August 2022.

This is about as close as one can get to the "mountain" currently. They expect the entire valley (including all the places I took pictures from) to be covered by lava in two weeks.
