  1. I like to think that my understanding of technique is one of my stronger climbing traits - and I probably understand it better than I can perform it in many cases... Except jamming and crack technique; that, I'll freely admit (and hardly a surprise to anyone who's watched me try), I don't get. I've tried, I kinda understand the principles, I kinda understand how it *should* work, but when I've tried (if it works at all), it's super-high effort. Basically, I suck at it. Not a lot of chances to practice at your average climbing wall, or indeed your average English crag. Harrisons Rocks, however, has a fair few cracks. Figured that if I was playing solo anyway, I ought to try. Armed with a few WideBoyz tips I think, by the end of this horribly dogged crack, I understand the physics of it a little better. Guess I'll have to go back and try some more...

  2. Took a little solo trip to Harrisons Rocks last Monday and it was a remarkably quiet and chill day working my toprope solo skills and some interesting moves. After a few laps of warmup, I tried this little number and got a few tips to improve my projecting skills - like actually pay attention when you work out the crux so you're not too blasted to do the top the way you worked out when you get there in one! I was pretty close to calling it on account of being cream-crackered, but sheer bloody-mindedness fortunately induced one more attempt as the sun got full on it. Fun one to work, actually.
