After a generally lousy weekend spent at a funeral on Long Island, nursing a stye on my eyelid, and watching my country wander recklessly into yet another war, I kind of expected last night's radio show to, well.... suck.

Underground rock icon deaths apparently come in trios the same way celebrity deaths do. I have complex and sometimes contradictory opinions about the way community radio DJs ought to honor the passing of departed kingpins, but I am definitely not a fan of on-air histrionics or elaborate "career retrospective" programs. Toasting their achievements, huddling with the people you love, and having a quick smoke in the alley outside the funeral home is more my speed, so that'll be the plan for tonight's edition of the Hotwire Mandate. Gary Floyd (the Dicks), Dennis Thompson (the MC5), and Steve Albini (Big Black, Shellac, etc) will all have their moments amidst the usual slate of sounds, both new and old. 10 PM (NYC time) on the @WFMUDrummerStream

I trashpicked a pretty nice office chair while driving home from work this afternoon. A quick roadside inspection convinced me it was fine, though when I got it back home, a few gashes in the leather and a disintegrating headrest diminished my enthusiasm slightly. Fortunately, since I'm not only cheap but also wicked handy with a roll of gaff tape, I was able to repair the problem bits in no time. A thorough cleaning out on the driveway + an hour in the sun, and it's ready for service as my new DJ chair in the Starlite Lounge. #WFMU #GTDR
