  1. Hey #fediverse, does anyone know if a.gup.pe and chirp.social has some sort of #API which lists all groups in it? I've just thought of an idea to make this #GoToSocial instance I manage federate even more instances than just 600+ servers, which is to #massfollow them all with a #followbot. Yeah it's a really bad thing to use against normal instances (it's gonna annoy humans behind the accounts), but it shouldn't be a problem if I just follow group accounts, right? :sagume_think:

I'm gonna also try mass following every community in
    #Lemmy and #kbin as well.

    Thanks!

  2. How do you create a #GroupAccount?

New groups are created on demand. Basically, you can tag or mention a new group by posting e.g. @testgroup and it will show up.

I am not sure about whether this will be an important feature. I think for generalist groups maybe not. They may be abused by spammers, which then will result in people simply muting a group.

But I think with well-behaved users and for boutique topics this can be a very useful feature to reach people you may not reach otherwise.

  3. So what is a #GroupAccount? There is @economics.

As you can see this looks like a normal account on the instance @a.gup.pe -- and in fact, this is an instance that solely operates these group accounts.

    How does Guppe work?

    1) Guppe groups look like regular users you can interact with using your #Mastodon account

    2) They share anything you send them with all of their followers.

    3) To join a group, follow a group

    4) Mention a group on @a.gup.pe to share a post with everyone in the group
