I painted a bunch of little gouache paintings yesterday in hopes of learning some new skills. Most of them aren’t very good, but I’m happy with this one of a meteor shower. It’s smaller than a typical playing card; so it’s probably bigger on your phone than it is in real life. In addition to the gouache, you can see I also used a little white colored pencil for the glow. I learned that using an angled flat brush makes it easier to blend out the tails than using a round or liner brush. The flat brush is easier to control, less wiggle.

This didn’t quite turn out how I had imagined it and I think I overworked some parts but I am glad I managed to get the idea on paper and I might create another version at some point because I do love the concept. :)

This morning there was close to a full moon here in Victoria, Australia. Took Bandit out for a run - a little later than usual, as we normally do this in the dark with a glowing chucker ball.

Then came home and mixed up some tertiaries on the paper as I've now got the three primary colours, black and white in my Liquitex collection of acrylic gouache. I've said it here before...I simply love this medium.

Yesterday I tried some plant studies in gouache on black watercolor paper. I have a garden book for reference that helped me choose, and I supplemented it with photos from the internet so I could see more than one view of each plant. I definitely feel like I leveled up with my skills on painting plants yesterday, and with some amount of efficiency as I filled this whole page in less than a day. Starting with a dark background really helped. #gouache #painting

After paining my third free YouTube video from Ruth Wilshaw, I finally bought myself a whole year of access to her entire collection of over 200 gouache painting tutorials. I love her fantastic style. I know I’m going to learn a lot from her, and I’m really excited about it. Yesterday I painted a whole page of plant silhouettes using one of her videos to help me, and then I used a book on plants to fill the rest of the page. So now I can paint a bunch of new plants. Went to another #NatureSketching session with #DisegnatoriEsploratori yesterday. We went to a newly reopened section at Arte Sella, a land art gallery here in the mountains. It was pretty fun!
This time I experimented with mixing gouache and acrylic markers and not adding any ink linework.

I'm Adelaide, and I absolutely love drawing whatever comes to my mind or catches my eye. I mostly post portraits, nature-related things, and the occasional frog.
