My #BandcampFriday suggestion is Social Youth Cult - "The Lighthouse" - best band I saw at Goths on a Field.

If you have any love for guitar goth / post-punk, these lot manage to do something which is reminiscent of Bauhaus, Bowie and Birthday Party without being derivative.

The evening started with Matt Hart who did a lot of yelling over some hard techno, which is fine as that sort of thing goes. Certainly got the crowd moving.

And now we have Social Youth Cult from Newcastle who live up to their name - I mistook them for someone else's kids! But bloody hell they're doing some good #Bauhaus / #BirthdayParty / #Bowie stuff. Fat bass guitar lines. Certainly blowing away some of the old duffers! And possibly the first live drummer I've seen this weekend, long overdue and very welcome.

Blind Cat were less my sort of thing and a bit too loud for the PA to cope with so I chatted to friends outside during their set.

After them, I Am Imperfect did some great synthwave. Also a decent cover of "Cry Little Sister" which I'm in two minds about - on the one hand, it's a good song and they did it justice. On the other hand, their own material is strong enough that they don't need a cover, and I worry that cover versions can distract from a band's original material.

A #camping experiment for the #GothsOnAField / #EMFCamp #heatwave - attaching mylar sheets (actually £3 "survival blankets") from Go Outdoors) to my tent, to reflect sunlight away.

Seems to be effective - it's noticeably darker inside. It's too breezy to just attach with pegs but fortunately I had duct tape in my camp kit.

@girlonthenet One of the things I never knew I needed at a music festival until #GothsOnAField this weekend... replacing the standard wristband with a shock collar with built-in throat mic which gets activated when you're near a band playing.

The mighty #Attrition were my highlight of #GothsOnAField for me. Amazing music and vocals. Martin sounds like he's smoked 40 cigarettes, each of which has smoked 40 cigarettes itself first.

I should be packed and on my way to #GothsOnAField right now, but my brain wouldn't let me go until I wrote some code.

This is the start of a piece of work to demonstrate visually the value of preferential voting systems such as #AV over #FPTP. There will be a companion piece to demonstrate the value of #PR systems.

Overindulged last night at #GothsOnAField and spent much of today feeling terrible and very sorry for myself.

I've rallied now and am watching Holy Braille in the barn, following an excellent set from Palindrones.

At #GothsOnAField. Lovely to hang out with friends, but the lack of multi-Gigabit Internet connectivity, 16A feeds to the tent, and orphan source incidents is a little disorienting #EMFCamp
