  1. @Global_Repercussions @tofugolem

Speaking of history, I wonder whether historians are taking note of the fact that the Woods Royal Commission (into NSW police corruption) resulted in the establishment of the NSW Police Integrity Commission (a police watchdog that removed at least a few egregiously corrupt individuals), which was later folded (along with other anti-corruption instruments) into the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC), which was then de-funded by the (ICAC-confirmed) corrupt former #Coalition premier #GladysBerejiklian to a fraction of the former PIC budget, to the point where it only has the resources to investigate a mere ~2% of complaints it receives? The same premier also slashed the funding for #ICAC, to the point where it didn't have the resources to complete the investigation into her own corrupt behaviour in a timely manner (that delay ironically becoming one of bases for her failed attempt to appeal the findings made against her).

  2. It wasn't who #KoalaKiller #GladysBerejiklian was having sex with, if she was naïve, dating a monster, or even fooled etc. It was her history of wiping out wildlife, ruining #Sydney transport, destroying evidential documents, facilitating #JohnBarilaro and his reign of corruption. She's a disgrace and deserves to be investigated further. To claim she's innocent is absolutely ridiculous.

  3. ICAC has said Berejiklian's conduct was not serious enough to lay charges.
    WTF?!

    Quote:

The Commission has considered whether Ms Berejiklian’s conduct in relation to the RCM could constitute or involve a substantial breach of an applicable code of conduct for the purposes of s 9(1)(d) of the ICAC Act, rather than whether it could constitute or involve a criminal offence for the purposes of s 9(1)(a).

Ultimately, the Commission is of the view that Ms Berejiklian’s conduct, while it constitutes or involves a substantial breach of the ministerial code, is not so serious as to merit criminal punishment (an element of the offence of misconduct in public office) and therefore does not reach the very high bar required to make out this element of the offence of misconduct in public office.

For this reason, the Commission is not of the opinion that consideration should be given to obtaining the advice of the DPP with respect to the prosecution of Ms Berejiklian.

  4. Today's the day we'll finally see the long-overdue report from ICAC about their investigation into Gladys Berejiklian's corruption

  5. Berejiklian's disgraced deputy #JohnBarilaro (who also resigned due to #corruption allegations) boasted of such behaviour, both in parliament, where he claims to have been speaking ironically/sarcastically, and in recently revealed audio of meetings with supporters where it is clear he is proudly admitting to the practice.

NSW ICAC is yet to publish its findings with regards to Berejiklian. However, since these allegations relate to the misuse of public funds, then it would be odd if this investigation did not also implicate her then treasurer, since any funding would have needed to have been signed off by him.

    Who was Berejiklian's treasurer?

Current NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet, currently two days out from potential re-election.

Yet #ICAC have had to delay their report into Berejiklian, due to budgetary constraints limiting the pace of their investigations.

Given the significance of the work ICAC does, how did it come to be underfunded? That would be due to budget cuts by (checks notes) #GladysBerejiklian and her treasurer, #DominicPerrottet.

  6. Two more days until the NSW state election.

NSW has an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), a statutorily independent government-funded watchdog with investigative powers that have at least a little teeth to them. The kicking and screaming from the federal Coalition over NSW's ICAC and their long-term opposition to the establishment of anything like that at a federal level illustrates that ICAC is not entirely useless.

Indeed, two of the last four Coalition premiers in NSW have resigned directly due to ICAC investigations, including the current premier's predecessor, Gladys Berejiklian, who was exposed by ICAC as being in a secret romantic relationship with a backbench MP, Daryl Maguire, who himself was a prime suspect in a major ICAC investigation, and has now been charged with a variety of criminally corrupt activity.

Gladys Berejiklian has also been accused (amongst other things) of engaging in pork-barrelling (a.k.a. the abuse of public funds for partisan ends), a practice that #ICAC has condemned as a form of #corruption, yet which Berejiklian herself basically admitted to in parliament, saying (paraphrased only slightly) "everyone does it".
