  1. @philip I think it'll be weeks or months, more likely months, before it's fixed.

It will remain fixed for a period of days or weeks.

Then it will break down again.

Some context for people seeing this outside Melbourne: Box Hill is the main commercial "hub" of Melbourne's eastern suburbs. It's not yet a second downtown, but there's some suggestions it could eventually become one.

There's a growing number of tall office buildings and apartment towers. I took some photos last time I was in Melbourne: https://pixelfed.social/p/ajsadauskas/911568051347668761

At the centre is a multimodal transport Interchange called Box Hill Central.

Underneath is a train station on two lines running from the centre of Melbourne to the outer eastern suburbs. On the ground floor is a shopping centre, market, and large food court. Nearby is a tram line and an under-construction metro.

And on the rooftop is a major bus station that serves multiple bus lines across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. I think about 12 or 14 in total?

There's whole suburbs where the sole connection to the rest of Melbourne's public transport network is a bus that runs to Box Hill Central.

Anyone transferring from those busses to a connecting train or tram, or travelling to Box Hill, depends on this one escalator.

  7. on the free vline travel you will encounter people down on their luck. Some obviously sleeping rough. Taking the chance for a very rare travelling opportunity. I was impressed with how well the staff and my fellow passengers treated them, showing considerable care #travel #vic

  8. Vline free travel. The middle of the day train from Bairnsdale was a six car Velocity. Full, but nobody standing. If you try this, get to the station early. The yellow seats for old people are hotly contested and the most decrepit wins. So don’t count on that option. #travel #vic

  10. I will also be travelling on vline in May. Some (obvious) things to note. Travel light - you need to be able to lift your luggage onto the overhead rack. If you can avoid weekends it’s easier. It’s possible you will be left behind on the platform if the train is full. So have a plan. #vic #travel abc.net.au/news/2026-04-19/fre

  11. I did like the several interviews with locals near Dezi’s camp. “We had no idea he was there”. Followed by a shot of the street sign with painted on it “Dezi” with an arrow pointing to the spot. They will most likely get away with it, but I find their stories completely unbelievable. #vic #dezifreeman

  18. Palestine Cinema Days: The Dupes (1972)

  19. If you've done any assembly language programming, especially on the C64 certain hex numbers stay in your mind forever.

I have a set of these floating in my Hex Memory Matrix which pop up under various circumstances.

I loved writing to the display on the VIC IC with the ROM routines. Logical that that Hex address is in the upper range of the hex matrix. The same with writing to the SID chip.

  20. Heatwaves, dangerous thunderstorms, Dangerous winds, Extreme Fire Danger for NSW, SA & Vic over next 36 hours

The majority of severe weather will result from the passage of a powerful front, however for South Australia and Victoria on Wednesday, a deepening offshore low has the potential to generate winds equal in strength to a category 2 tropical cyclone.

The low is likely to strengthen further on Wednesday as it passes through Bass Strait, with the central pressure dropping below 985hPa — the equivalent strength of a category 2 tropical cyclone

The unseasonable heat will combine with powerful winds, relatively low humidity, and rapidly drying soils to trigger the first extreme fire dangers of the season around Sydney, the Hunter, Illawarra and parts of the central west.

The risk is further exacerbated by dry lightning which could ignite multiple fires both on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.
