  1. When I first moved to #PortlandME (back in the late 1990s), it was $750 a month for a three-bedroom apartment in a triple decker building which included a front room (parlor), living room (old dining room), a kitchen, a backroom (pantry), a porch, and basement storage! Now the same unit (assuming one can find one to rent, since many are now condos) would be $4,000 a month! No wonder just about everyone I know has moved away, and the couple friends who are left were able to buy years ago, but are getting priced out because of property taxes (one friend works 2 jobs just to cover their ass, and is thinking about selling).
